Bob, thank you for letting us know even though it is very sad news. Mike seemed to make the most out of life and didn't let setbacks get in his way. He will live on in his little boy. I'm sure Mom will tell him what a kind, wonderful father he had. My heart goes out to this young family. God bless.

The Philadelphia Mint: making coins since 1792. We make money by making money. Now in our 225th year thanks to no competition.
For those of you that want to offer your condolences, I will be giving Bigindie's wife the link to this thread and also to Lucy's thread. She will be blown away with the thoughts and comments you have all offered on Mike's behalf. I know I am.
Also, no donations are being solicited. However, Oreville had a great idea to memorialize "Bigindie" somehow, perhaps with a "Young Numismatist" award. Mike got his 10 year old nephew started in this great hobby last year, and was thrilled to be the young man's mentor on the coin collecting journey. In fact, his nephew was one of the winners in a contest one of the board members put on last year. Mike was absolutely thrilled that his nephew won, as the young man proudly showed Mike the coins he won. I like this idea, and will post a message sometime in the near future and pursue this.
This is terrible news, Bob, but thank you for letting us know. Mike was truly a great guy and my heart really aches for his wife and son. His family will be in my prayers for God's consolation and to know His compassionate love for them. I hope Heather will print these threads out for their son, to let him one day know how many friends his dad had who liked, admired and appreciated him. He'll never know most of us nor remember much about his father who was lost to him so young, but at least he will have a fuller knowledge of the caliber of man he was.
Sounds like Mike lived a full if not long life. My condolences to his friends and family. Because of him I am reminded of what's truly important in this brief life.
I'm more of a lurker than a poster, but I wanted to add my condolences. I remember a some of Mike's posts. He was one of the guys that I always took the time to read. May he rest in peace. Best wishes to his family. Brian
This truly breaks my heart. I grieve for his family and with eyes filled wiyh tears draw upon my Faith that he is in a much better place....a place where there is no more pain and suffering- no more wheelchair -in the Hands of God. We are all born to die -we all know this...but it's never easy to accept!.... Hamilton...you asked about Faith! This is what Faith is all about! I hope you read this for one day I KNOW, you WILL have the Faith you so desperately seek. Rest in peace Mike. God knows what He is doing! It's hard on all of us but if we believe...TRULY BELIEVE...actually we should rejoice and be glad for Mike! Only those that have Faith know where I'm coming from! Let's all keep Mike yet moreso , his widow and his children in our prayers!
May light shine upon this tragic day in form of rememberance of Mike and prayer for his family. I am truly sorry for this loss. While I don't know him personally...I knew him through his posts and he was a joy to these boards. -Aaron
I never knew Mike, but when a guy who's young enough to be my son dies, it is indeed a tragedy. Especially so for his family. Wish there was more we could do other than to express our condolences here.

So sad to hear this. Mike and I traded PM's for awhile last summer about microbreweries in his neck of the woods and homebrewing beer along with fishing for steelhead. I hoped to meet him some day when I went fishing in his area again.....Ken
This kind of thing puts lifes ups & downs in perspective. A baby boy who will only know his father thru pictures and his mothers thoughts and a wife & mother who's lost her husband & friend much to young in life.
Bob, I don't know you and I know you said donations are not being solicited but if something like a college schoolership is set up for the boy we should hear about how to contribute to it. Please tell us if we can help even if no help was asked for.

The President claims he didn't lie about taxes for those earning less then $250,000 a year with public mandated health insurance yet his own justice department has said they will use the right of the government to tax when the states appeals go to court.
Bummer! Sometimes we forget there are " real " people with " real " lifes with the kind of medium we have and use to communicate to each other on these boards. It`s too impersonnal of a medium to really get the total " flavor " of the people you talk with and/or a forum member. That`s great that he was able to live a full, rewarding life inspite of the physical hurdles he faced! I`m sorry to hear this sad news. Too young to pass away.

I read this post in the morning at work and I wasn't able to answer until now. My heart sank to the lowest level I've felt in a long time. Big Mike was a wonderful soul and I deeply regret his passing. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family. Mike was a wonderful man - I'll miss him a lot
