truly sorry to hear of the news. the little bit that I know of you from our brief conversation I am sure you will be graced with another child or 2 soon, no worries.
I know your not showing us the paper money because this is the US COIN forum so you must be showing off how lucky you are to work with someone like that think you could get a picture that is a little more clear? from what i can see the tan toning looks great but the big question is... is it AT?
biker.....this is the coin forum? No wonder i get so much grief.
But yes, i am lucky to have a wife that allows me to hire attractive women. Some people lift weights or run marathons. I buy cool coins and then sell them and I hire pretty girls and then leave them alone.
Kid at least your paying attention to the important thing in the picture, it's good shes not holding a coin because if she was my attention might atually be on the coin not the assistant.
<< <i>[("Morgan Dollars exist in every Mint State grade.") Incidentally, there's no Morgan Dollar graded by either service as MS70.] >>
Well this can actually be debated. In PCGS' grading set of Morgan Dollars, they have a MS70 Morgan Dollar. Many people say the coin would actually never make the MS70 grade at PCGS, but it's in their grading set as a MS70. PCGS would most likely grade it a MS69, if it was ever sent in, but one could always hope!

I think your assistant is a good MS66 but I think the obverse might be AT'ed! Need pics of the reverse to make a good grading decision though!

Hey TommyB......my wife is doing well, and thanks for the kind words. She's a trooper, which of course she would have to be because she's been with me for 13 years, as of yesterday. We too have a three year old and a 5 years old.
Did you know we can't have sex for like two weeks? You guys are gonna be seeing a lot more of me around here. Which reminds me, we need to get some more girls on the board. Any ideas? Maybe i can't get Stephanie to start posting here.
Oh, speaking of Stephanie....Chris...Stephanie's reverse is...er....outstanding.
So, where's joconnor? ....man, nuthin' worse than a guy who brushes his teeth and never knew you peed on it.

Adrian, I would like for you to resubmit Stephanie to me for grade guarantee review. I shall crack her out and regrade her for $30. Should she be improperly graded, I will gladly pay you the difference and keep her myself. My wife's name is Stephanie, so I know I already like the series.

Is it just me, or does it seem like most of the forum members are exploiting this assistant? IMO, this is no way to treat a woman. Women should be looked at for their intelligence and inner beauty. Yes, good looks is a plus, but society today favors beauty over intelligence. To each their own, but maybe some of you guys should calm down and put your horses back in their barns.......

Adrian, sure that trade dollar in JO'S inventory is probably dipped. But the luster is not wiped out. Same as the proof 66 DCAM half you displayed. The surfaces are still intact and very nice on both coin. They are NOT on the 1815 quarter. So what's your point? NGC grades material wrong all the time...both ways too.
As I stated in threads this past month I went 0 for 5 on one submission with NGC looking for grades on raw coins. Submitting the identical coins in the same order a few months later to them got me 4 for 5 with one of them going up 2 points. Go figure. 5 points up on 5 coins. Real consistency. There's NO WAY this should happen at a grading service where accuracy should run at no less than 80%. I've had similar experiences with more recent submissions. My only point is that there is a major hole in the services at the present with regards to grading both toned and dipped type coins. It's like playing the lottery. More than ever it comes down to knowing what the coin is out of the holder.
LW - I can assure you that all of my horses are in the barn. It's raining outside, and they don't like to stand out in the rain. That goes double for my Stephanie's Freisian, who HATES the rain.
I like to hire attractive assistants also. My wife is confident in her own intelligence and beauty enough to know that I wouldn't cross the line, ever. Why go out for hamburger, when you can have steak at home?
She's smarter than me, and is OK with the fact that I ususally get the credit that she deserves. She doesn't mind my observance of beauty. In fact, having a well trained eye that chose her above all others is quite a compliment.
I find your conduct to be objectionable. This is not the first time you've encountered contrary sentiment, and you've responded harshly and using personal attacks.
When you, as a dealer, market your wares publicly, you should expect candid feedback. The feedback was about your coin (and, your assistant, who is cute!). Your response did not defend your coin; it merely commented very harshly on the contrarian respondents.
At no time did anyone make any harsh comment about you. You may want to keep this in mind.
As for your coin, there is no denying that it is a garbage coin for its grade and its perceived slabbed market value. I have seen the Ashland coins at FUN; every dealer I've spoken with were disappointed with the material, and several knew beforehand that the collector was quite unknowledgeable and badly taken advantaged of.
Capped Bust Quarters are found with all luster variations. They come with flat luster, satin luster and frosty luster, among others. This coin has flat to satin luster, in my opinion. In my opinion, it's an attractive well struck coin that is graded by one of the two most widely respected grading services. It's not junk. But then again, that's just my opinion. Some people are know-it-alls. They know how coins should be graded, what is right and what isn't. Everytime and all on points. Are you and joconnor those kind of people? Seems like it.
Maybe you and joconnor are just turbo-connoisseurs who just have really, really special palettes and who are just better than the rest of us....and NGC. That's great. But not every coin that isn't in your collection is junk.
When you or anyone else starts referring to my coins in a public forum as "junk", it reflects on you more than it reflects on the coin. In my opinion, it shows a total lack of decorum and intellect. You can comment on the coin's luster without calling the coin junk or making a personal attack on the owner.
The quarter is graded MS 65, not MS68. You're entitled to your opinions even if you can't see that that is all that they are. You know what they say about opinions.
What joconnor did that offends me the most is his personal attack of me. He attacked me for what i would call no good reason:
"However, if you want to come here and pound on your chest, proclaiming your expertise, maybe you should have something to back it up besides salesmanship." (And where did i pound my chest or proclaim my expertise?)
Check out his website. Has he written any books? Got a college degree in art or history or business or finance or investments?
Been a grader at NGC or PCGS? Anything other than 'i've bought and sold a few coins'? Sounds like just salesmanship to me. He's a hypocrite.
When I see these threads, I like to stick to the "beauty" angle. Since you guys are deviating from coins and getting into personal barbs, I don't mind cluttering this thread with more "beauty."
This is a picture of a Friesian. My wife bought hers in Holland and shipped it to the states. It is truely one of God's most magnificent creatures. To me, it is more breathtaking than Adrian's assistant. These horses are jet-black, and have beatiful mane, tail, profile, and feathered hoofs.
Take a chill pill. Not everything needs to be so vitriolic. Besides, Joe's comment about chest-pounding seems to be directed at Baley, not you. Of course, I could be wrong and I can certainly see why you'd think it was directed at you.
That's one of the problems with a message board forum: it's really easy to get confused as to who's saying what to whom... And, most people don't write perfectly clearly to begin with!
Now my point about coins. The origin for this breed of horse was a working draft horse in northern Europe, long ago. When the industrial revolution hit, people no longer needed the big powerful drafts, so another breed was used to thin them out into a light draft. These horses became unpopular around the turn of the century, and were in danger of being wiped out. A few brave souls selected five studs from which to carry on the breed making sure the true characteristics of the breed were perpetuated, and closed the stud book. In order for your Friesian to be registered, it must have come from one of the five blood lines.
You cross a Friesian with another horse, and you do not have a Friesian. You tool an 1815 quarter, you do not have an 1815 quarter.
A mixed breed? A "conserved" horse? A "dipped" coin?
I will take the beauty every time, so long as it is genuine and not materially monkeyed with.
By the way, i have never bought a coin simply because it was "pedigreed" to someone.
I've seen many, many ugly coins with great provenances. Great provenances are great but not when they're attached to ugly coins.
Don't get me wrong. I think the trade dollar is pretty, even if it's been dipped. (And paying a premium for a provenanced coin is ok but overpaying is to be avoided.)
But others might not like it. And it's that way with all coins. AND THAT'S THE WAY IT IS WITH ALL COINS.
For example, take this coin that is in joconnor's site:
I happen to like it but many others wouldn't. It's blotchy. (It's also 35% over Greysheet...but it was owned by Garrett).
There are many people that don't like blotchy coins. So, even if I happen to like it, i might not buy it because it would probably be hard to sell.
I don't like people telling me what to do. I'll take a chill pill when i want to.
Regardless of who he attacked (and i believe he attacked me), he's the one who doesn't have credentials but is pouning his chest acting like he's Mr. Scholar while going around and attacking people for being just a salesman when he's just a salesman.
He doesn't even state that he's a life member of the ANA. Geeze. Even i'm a life member of the ANA.
