Lucy, that's a beautiful half. I don't know the Texas comms very well, but the thing woud have to be a 66 or 67 (absolute guess). Really nice.

  • PCGS Graded
  • MS-65.

  • Maybe a MS-65 or 66. It doesn't appear fully struck, and the toning makes it hard to see if there are any marks in the fields. That being said, please forward said piece to me. It would go well with this one:

  • Maulumall,

I managed to grab a 35-D that is similar to this one as well, and have been keeping my eye out for toned Texas commems like this for a while. image

  • Texas is in the Top 3 fav comms. They aren't that expensive relatively speaking.
    It seems they tone well.

    Lucy:

I note the coin seems to be in a first generation holder. Assuming that PCGS was grading a bit more strictly at the time and noting that the sems a bit weakly stuck (the eagle's breast feathers seem weak, and, gad, I hated writing that last phrase because I worry about a comeback from you) I'll guess MS63. But, if they graded only on the over-all appearance of the coin, I think the grade would be higher because that coin has toned a lovely color, a color that even a "blast-white" fan such as myself can appreciate.

Yes, Maulu... Texas commems seem to come real nice, and they are very affordable in high grades. I might actually turn my attention to putting a complete set of them together one of these days.

As far as the grade, I have to go with Anaconda...

This is also one Commemorative design that is extremely attractive Blast White too.

  • Lucy, I just got a Texas back from PCGS. The luster was fantastic and I thought the strike was excellent. I was surprised to see it came back AU58. It didn't have the great toning your has but it's sure beautiful.

As I’ve said before, I working with an odd monitor, and I’m not getting perfect pictures. I’d grade the coin that started this as MS-63. It could be an MS-64 – I confess I can’t see as much of it as if I were home. Kiethdagon’s coin looks like an MS-66 to me. It looks really nice.

Texas commems tend to come nice because they were issued when collecting commems was really a fad and the collectors kept them nice. The trick is to find a really sharply struck one. Many pieces are weakly struck in the area of Ms. Texas’ hand.

    Merry Christmas to all!!!!

Hard to see, but from the few ticks I can see (or think I see) I would guess MS64.
