    Then stop speaking to them.
  • looks like someone had an extra glass of the PCGS Kool-aid this morning! image I guess it probably is a good idea to suspend the First Amendment for at least 30 days, to accomodate the folks that would rather be indoctrinated than educated.

  • If it bothers you so much don't read the thread, simple as that. Personally I'll take NGC over PCGS any day, but that has more to do with the moral actions of the company than its grading(i.e. death coins).

Mr. David Gregory of Chino, CA:

What has gotten into you that you have this extreme sensitivity and this propensity for censorship? If you find a topic so offensive, then just ignore it. If you wish to join in on the discussion, then you should consider arguing the merits of the discussion. In other words, please stop being childish and no more ranting and stomping of feet.

In another recent thread, it seemed like you had a problem with my post. If my assessment is correct, please point out EXACTLY which point I made with which you disagreed.

BTW, do you know what's so good about an ostrich that has buried its head underground? The rest of us can't hear its babbling!

Finally, can I safely assume that you're not a litigator, or even a lawyer?

So now everyone is supposed leave PCGS alone because the W-man, the PCGS weenie who worships the space upon which PCGS coins reside, has ordered us to be quiet. What a crock! What an insult to the opinions of others! “PCGS is superior, and I’ve laid down the law because I am all knowing and always right” Grow up!!!!!

If you don’t like the topic, don’t respond! Otherwise you have no right to censor others.

You're kidding, right? WSM lives in Chino, CA, and probably knows as much about Convertible Bonds and Forex as he does about numismatics. The only thing asset-backed about him is probably his mule-like stubborness.

Did we ever find out who was the best, PCGS or NGC?
    Who's Moderns sell for more?
Who is the easier service for Toners?
Is ACG as good as ANACS?
Is ACG a reputable company? I see them on sleazeBay all the time.

  • EVP,

I had to ask! I don't really know much about WSM. After all, given the experience of Wall Street in the coin market in 1989, it would make some sense. Fortunately, I was into coins before I started working on Wall Street, so it didn't affect me as much! image

yawn... collectors vote every day on eBay. PCGS slabs consistently fetch higher prices. Then again, maybe EVP is just smarter than everyone else image LOL
  • EVillageProwlerEVillageProwler Posts: 5,856 ✭✭✭✭✭
    Jeff,

Please accept my deepest of apologies. I missed the full breadth of your insightful probe into WSM's background. A few years ago, Wall Street got crazy with the various DotCom's. The I-bankers puffed up all these companies, even though the huge majority of them had no real business plan and no actual asset. The traders and sales folks followed suit in the puffery, and folks like Abby Joseph Cohen pronounced a very BULL market (even though her boss, Steven Einhorn, urged caution).

Basically, these Wall Street types quickly became very indoctrinaire.

So, maybe this Gregory person really was a Wall Street guy.

    EVP

PS Abby Cohen was the last of the prominent market prognosticators to cease with the BULL market pronouncements.

  • No, but I do pretty well trading! I have a Central Vacuum business, but most my coin money comes from trading. Ive done exceptionally well lately, the swings have been crazy. I got a 125% on ADP AUG 35 CALLS while on a Carnival cruise a couple of weeks ago, bought at a 1.00 and sold for 2.25, had a order to sell at 3.00 and changed it. Two days later the market POPPED over 400 pts and they hit 3.25, oh well, I learned not to get greedy!

What else can't we talk about here?
  • EVillageProwlerEVillageProwler Posts: 5,856 ✭✭✭✭✭
    Crito,

I never said that NGC is better than PCGS, or even equal to PCGS. I'd never say that because it is too general of a statement to make, and I think both services have good and bad aspects.

Personally, I like NGC more right now because of their customer service. The way they do business is more in line with my expectations. As for their grading, I could care less. I don't care about the registry, and I don't care (much) about the holder. I only assess a coin based on its merits, and I basically use the services because their guarantees are a nice hedge against my own failings.

This is my first post in this great forum and what a debate, well, Lucy can settle this real easy! I've got 'something' that PCGS & NGC can both grade! And trust me, it'll demand a high premium regardless of the slab Daddy-o!

Recent ANA auction results. Capped bust type coins, same date, grade, variety.etc. The 65 PCGS coin had one floor bidder and sold at graysheet...12K. The 65 NGC coin had four floor bidders, three to the end, and sold for 26.5K. Buy the coin. K

    Crito,

I think this Ebay example is not persuasive. Ebay is a sight-unseen market, which means that buying in that medium is largely buying the holder instead of the coin. That's a notion I find hard to accept, and that's not a notion I think we ought to teach newbies.

Well we have WSM running the US Coin Forum, telling us what is allowed and typetone telling us to be quiet on the registry forum. Must be the dog days of August or these two really are insecure. image
  • critocrito Posts: 1,735
EVP, it's the perfect example, unbiased and a large sampling. The smaller auction venues, where pedigree is often sold more than coins, are the exception, not the rule. I've seen "rare turquoise" common date Morgans sell for 5x book RAW. So what?

I will now refrain from this topic for 30 days image
  • Alert!!!

There is no need to continue this thread! We have the definitive resolution of this debate in the recent issue #196 of David Hall's INSIDE VIEW newsletter which states on page 4:

"PCGS is the most respected third party grading service. PCGS coins are worth the most and are the easiest to sell. There is no reason to buy coins graded by any other third party grading service. It is an unnecessary risk. You should buy PCGS coins exclusively."

So there you have it...case closed.

  • ricardouno,

You know I did the same thing when I bought my truck a few years ago. I first stopped at the Dodge dealer and the salesman told me that Dodge trucks were the best, and Ford and GM weren't nearly as good, so I bought the Dodge, and didn't even bother to look at the other dealers. After all, the Dodge salesman has no more incentive to promote Dodges than David Hall has to promote PCGS right? image
