Its getting old! Im tired of getting dragged into these because someone puts NGC on equal footing with PCGS, I dont want newbies to be filled with B.S.

Russ, NCNE
Then stop speaking to them.
PS-And what BS shall we protect them from? Like the fact that Wallstreetman's classic double eagles are 96% gold while the rest of ours are only 90% gold?
PPS- Buy the coin, not the plastic!!!

What has gotten into you that you have this extreme sensitivity and this propensity for censorship? If you find a topic so offensive, then just ignore it. If you wish to join in on the discussion, then you should consider arguing the merits of the discussion. In other words, please stop being childish and no more ranting and stomping of feet.
In another recent thread, it seemed like you had a problem with my post. If my assessment is correct, please point out EXACTLY which point I made with which you disagreed.
BTW, do you know what's so good about an ostrich that has buried its head underground? The rest of us can't hear its babbling!
Finally, can I safely assume that you're not a litigator, or even a lawyer?

In 5-10 minutes I'll be posting a fun thread that
might just bring you all back together.
Or it might do the reverse.

If you don’t like the topic, don’t respond! Otherwise you have no right to censor others.
Please don't take *too* much offense, but you're not the sharpest needle on the cushion are you? Where did you get your numismatic knowledge anyway? From the inside of Cracker Jack box, along with your authentic Green Lantern ring?

The clever prose of your response is Hemingway-esque. Might I suggest that you pursue that avocation instead of coins? I wish you nothing but long life and happiness.

You're kidding, right? WSM lives in Chino, CA, and probably knows as much about Convertible Bonds and Forex as he does about numismatics. The only thing asset-backed about him is probably his mule-like stubborness.

Who's Moderns sell for more?
Who is the easier service for Toners?
Is ACG as good as ANACS?
Is ACG a reputable company? I see them on sleazeBay all the time.
I had to ask! I don't really know much about WSM. After all, given the experience of Wall Street in the coin market in 1989, it would make some sense. Fortunately, I was into coins before I started working on Wall Street, so it didn't affect me as much!
Please accept my deepest of apologies. I missed the full breadth of your insightful probe into WSM's background. A few years ago, Wall Street got crazy with the various DotCom's. The I-bankers puffed up all these companies, even though the huge majority of them had no real business plan and no actual asset. The traders and sales folks followed suit in the puffery, and folks like Abby Joseph Cohen pronounced a very BULL market (even though her boss, Steven Einhorn, urged caution).
Basically, these Wall Street types quickly became very indoctrinaire.
So, maybe this Gregory person really was a Wall Street guy.

PS Abby Cohen was the last of the prominent market prognosticators to cease with the BULL market pronouncements.

I never said that NGC is better than PCGS, or even equal to PCGS. I'd never say that because it is too general of a statement to make, and I think both services have good and bad aspects.
Personally, I like NGC more right now because of their customer service. The way they do business is more in line with my expectations. As for their grading, I could care less. I don't care about the registry, and I don't care (much) about the holder. I only assess a coin based on its merits, and I basically use the services because their guarantees are a nice hedge against my own failings.

Crito,
I think this Ebay example is not persuasive. Ebay is a sight-unseen market, which means that buying in that medium is largely buying the holder instead of the coin. That's a notion I find hard to accept, and that's not a notion I think we ought to teach newbies.

I will now refrain from this topic for 30 days
There is no need to continue this thread! We have the definitive resolution of this debate in the recent issue #196 of David Hall's INSIDE VIEW newsletter which states on page 4:
"PCGS is the most respected third party grading service. PCGS coins are worth the most and are the easiest to sell. There is no reason to buy coins graded by any other third party grading service. It is an unnecessary risk. You should buy PCGS coins exclusively."
So there you have it...case closed.
You know I did the same thing when I bought my truck a few years ago. I first stopped at the Dodge dealer and the salesman told me that Dodge trucks were the best, and Ford and GM weren't nearly as good, so I bought the Dodge, and didn't even bother to look at the other dealers. After all, the Dodge salesman has no more incentive to promote Dodges than David Hall has to promote PCGS right?
