Judging from my other two recent GTG's, I am confident you will all do well using these excellent CACG photos. I will post the grade/slab Sunday morning. This is another recent crossover. I am thrilled to own this original example of an R6 variety . D. Haynor estimates only 20 survive today.

The obverse is a VF-25. The reverse is stronger, but the obverse dominates that grading. VF-25.
My first thought was VF-30

VF-25. Still has decent meat on the bones.
If weakly struck that should come under consideration as to grade which looks to me close to ef.
VF35

Very nice color and luster for a circulated piece. I bet you lost 5 or 10 points in the crossover, I still expect CACG to go VF30. An attractive example.
I'll say 35.
I’ll take a shot “against” the grain - XF40 even under the CACG label.

Looks VF25ish to me, but I don't know these coins and this might be one of those types that are known for strike weakness and thus I might be a bit harsh.

I love the look of this coin because to me it just looks so wholesome. Just how old circulated gold should look, in my mind.
I am not a student of the series, but I think part of the portrait weakness is somewhat strike related, and the relief and design has held up pretty well overall, so I'm going to guess VF35.

If the coin was in a PCGS or NGC holder with a green sticker the grade will remain the same with CACG.
When it crossed JA's desk, and I am 100% certain it did, he decided not to sticker it. If he had, the coin would have remained in the PCGS holder. I have not crossed any PCGS coins that stickered. I have sent in NGC coins.
I was thinking about things the other day. When I came here I was pcgs cac gold. Now I am pcgs cacg old (guy)

First thought was 35. Looks like it has some luster which is out of ordinary for lower grades.

I don’t know the series but my guess is vf25.

Once again many of you matched CACG and others matched PCGS. As I mentioned earlier, this coin is very rare and I am very lucky to own her. It is an R6 die marriage with only 20 existing today. For my collection it was more important to verify originality over grade. There is not much difference between a 30 and a 25.
It would be interesting to see what this coin looked like the day it left the mint. It has a very weak strike. The whole center of the obverse was not struck well. I see this coin as an easy 30 and think PCGS had it right. From my experiences so far, CACG does not take strike into account when grading early coinage. I have spoken with other submitters that have found the same thing to be true.
With only $10 on the line, I sent this coin in twice. The first time I did not allow a downgrade. This coin came out of the Fairmont Collection and was in a PCGS 30 slab. My belief about the collection is that all coins went to JA for sticker consideration. That said, it was in the first group of coins I sent to CACG. I wanted to see if a coin that didn't sticker could cross at grade. It did not cross. As I have found so far, coins that I know went to JA have not crossed at grade.
I sent it back a second time allowing a downgrade to 25 and it crossed.

I’d rather have the coin in a CACG 25 holder than a PCGS 30 holder. The price difference between the two grades is minimal. The SB glamour shot auction pictures are terrible.
I agree 100% and that is why I gave her two tries to get there.

Thanks for posting this. The CACG photo is more suggestive of the assigned grade than the SB photo, which shows reflectivity that from the CACG photo is not there.
In any event, very nice example of a tough coin. And a good thread to boot.

Thanks @breakdown
Here is the shot that Jenna took for Doug Winter. Even a different look. I think CACG nailed it.
This is one of those coins that very few forum members like. In fact, only one like was clicked on her. I get that, she isn't what most people here are after. I was lucky to obtain four 1835 Die Marriages that rate R5-R6 and each has only between 15 and 30 in existence today. Happy Holidays.

I'd rather have the coin in a PCGS holder, which I like better, and conservatively graded as a 30.
If you want your coin in a CACG holder, and undergraded as a 25, more power to you. Merry Christmas.
