When CAC first hit the market I was a skeptic and even peeled off a few stickers. Nowadays I tend to send everything in. But there are a few that have been tried and did not CAC and I still love them. Here’s a couple. Anyone brave enough to show me theirs?

Your Chain Cent is a dream coin.
Why doesn't it, along with the half-cent have PCGS information on their PCGS photos?

    @Copperindian

For your Bechtler what was the deciding factor on DNPC (did but pass CAC)?

They said it appeared to be “heated”….

    Strongly disagree.
I’ve seen a lot of stuff but since when did people go around heating their gold coins.

This is graded AU-58. It flunked at CAC. If it had not, it I would not own it. It's a 1795 Overton 20, and the finest known by a wide margin. NGC once called it "MS-62" which deserved to flunk if it was submitted, but AU-58?

I don’t see any issues with this as a solid AU58. Love it.

@robec: what was the reasoning? Were they too nice?

Honestly, I didn’t ask. My assumption was that JA is not a fan of the toning.

Who cares? I have a whole file of CAC coins they liked which I don't understand. It's why I started collecting British and Roman coins.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

@johnny010 I still love that 10$ gold. That is a special coin in so many ways.

IMHO, CAC stickers have nothing to do with how great a coin is. Its more about how accurate or inaccurate is the slab plastic label, CAC stickers are nothing more than a comment on the accuracy of the assigned grade. Almost any coin would green or gold CAC sticker if you stuck them in slab plastic that was 2 grades lower.

Never submitted to CAC, but JA on the CAC forum said the coin is overgraded as a VF30. I agree. Nice coins that are overgraded tend not to sticker.

Graded PCGS VF30. I see it as VF20-25. One of my favorite coins in my collection for its near perfect gray toning and surfaces.

On the other hand, I have a dipped and retoned coin with a small hit in the upper right obverse field that stickered I think because it was undergraded, IMO.

EF40 (IMO) graded as PCGS VF35 with CAC

I suspect this nice 1851 VF35 may not sticker because of overgrading, though I haven't submitted it to CAC yet.

PCGS VF35 - should be VF30 IMO to be conservative and sticker.

Rarity7 has a new youtube where he unveils these in the 20 to 30 range. JA wants full Liberty for 25 and up.

Scratching my head a lot, but in honesty we are looking at photos while cac was looking at all of them in hand, and that will make a considerable difference

I did see a coin with VF35 wear in an EF40 holder with CAC recently on the boards here. I'm not going to hunt it down, but was struck by the VF35 wear on the coin. Otherwise, the coin was nice with beautiful toning.
