Denver hasn't impressed me that much this year. Every time I've watched them it seems like they lost big!

The Nuggets have won 11 of their last 13 games and are tied for 2nd out West. They're legit and they still have the best player in basketball.

Holy crap - just noticed Denver beat up on Detroit tonight! 134 - 119.

Looking back the Cavs beat Denver at home 126-114 and then again on the road 149-135.

Followed that game through the middle of the third quarter with the Celtics holding a 10 point lead. Figures that when I slip away the Cavs would step out. These two teams seem destined to meet in the East Finals and the survivor will probably be the favorite to win the title.

It's interesting to note that after the fast 25-3 start the Celtics were outscored 120-91. :o

That early 25-3 lead was fool's gold at best and was never going to hold up once both teams got settled in.This current Cavs offense is just too good to play at that horrible pace that they started with.

This game played out pretty much the same as every BOS/CLE regular season game in recent years, Boston gets up early and Cleveland battles back to make it a game and this time they won. It was a very entertaining overall game.

Sombodey should've told Tatum that when he gave the "Get the F out of here" sign to the Cavs when they just went up 25-3! :D

Sure, blame Jayson Tatum for this loss in a game where he went for 46/16/9/3. If that doesn't sum up the NBA fan world in a nutshell I don't know what does. What I meant with MY statement is, with how the game was going in the moment (Cleveland having hit just one basket over the first 5-6mins of game while Boston shot 7/10 from three) it was never sustainable, by either team. Fool's Gold.

Enjoy the win though, that one will go down as the greatest regular season comeback in February in regular season history, just like that earth shattering Cavs comeback almost a year ago to the day when Dean Wade hit a jillion threes in a huge comeback vs these same Celtics. How did the Cavs finish out that season again? 😉

I knew exactly what you meant. I was just referring to a professional basketball player should know better than to piss of an opponent when it's still way early in the game. Like the idiot football players that talk trash to their opponent and gives them a bit of inspiration to rub it in their faces. I'm sure it was just in the heat of the moment but still! You don't think that was brought up in the Cavs locker room at half time?

"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"

It's just Tatum is not going to be remembered for his 46/16/9/3 in a losing cause. He will be remembered for this unfortunately. It's all over sports talk shows.............

Every NBA team has players that do that type of stuff (or very similar.) Watch how many times Donovan Mitchell dunks on dudes then does the Too Small hand gesture. Lebron has his shoulder shrugs & flexes. Steph his Nite-Nite dance. Dame Time checks his watch after draining a three. Giannis mean-mugging dudes after every dunk. They all disrespect their opponents and it happens all of the time in games that they lose.

    Happens all of the time.

The only reason why we're talking about this now is because there's a large contingent of basketball fans that just love to hate on Jayson Tatum for whatever reasoning.
He's a front runner yet he just led his team to an NBA championship.
He's not tough yet he's played in the most regular season games and most playoffs games since being drafted.
He can't shoot yet he's scored the most total points and most playoffs points since 2020.

ironically, just moments after that Tatum gesture happened he passed Wilt Chamberlain into 6th place in NBA history for most career points scored before turning 27 (which happens on Monday.) Just in the past month he moved ahead of Michael Jordan, Kareem, Bob McAdoo, Oscar Robertson & Kevin Garnett. No one talks about that though, its always some other lame ass clickbaity shit that "fans" would rather go talk about postgame and here we are lol.

Maybe, but they don't do it with 7:10 left in the FIRST QUARTER! LOL!!!!!!!!!!

Sure they do, they showboat after every other made basket. Donovan Mitchell does it every single game and Cavs fans watching don't even blink an eye at it, but it still going on nonetheless.

Anyways, congrats on the win, The Cavs battled hard and definitely earned it. These two are set on a crash course meeting in May, hopefully we get that series.

I doubt that you were commenting here back at the time but things got to be pretty feisty between Maywood & I during that last BOS/CLE ECFs in 2017-18ish lol.

If our two teams meet in the 2025 ECF's then we're definitely making an avatar bet on that one lol. 😉

Cavs are trying to lose this game every way they can. Fouled Portland with one second left and now tie game into OT.

Cavs win in OT - Hunter takes the game over and scores 32, Jerome adds 25.

I tuned in midway through the 3rd and watched the 4th&OT, They played pretty tough and hit some big shots in that second half. Portland did too, they're far from a playoff team but they were pretty scrappy today.

The Nuggets/Celtics game earlier somehow the players managed to be both terribly sloppy while also showing plenty of grit with each team making big play after big play at the end. The C's at least now get a few days off before Portland comes to town.

Lebron James is poised to pass the 50k point mark in tonight's Lakers game. Remarkable that at 40 years old he is currently averaging 24.8 ppg to rank #12 in the NBA.

  • SanctionIISanctionII Posts: 12,391 ✭✭✭✭✭

LBJ is an outlier when it comes to physical abilities. Obviously his personal training routine and genetics contribute to him being who he is and what he can do at 40. However his drive, focus and determination play a big part in same.

Absent injury I could see him playing at an NBA level until he is 50.

  • Steven59Steven59 Posts: 9,310 ✭✭✭✭✭

And once again Kyrie Irving sustains another injury and is done for the year. Torn ACL.

Tonight was hoops heaven for me.

My high school’s current team and my college’s current team both played game one of post season playoffs tonight. My high school lost and my college’s current team won (beating the same team I lost to in game one of the 1977-78 playoffs in my senior year). Kudos to both 2024-25 squads.

On the pro level my local team (Warriors) are now 8-2 in games Jimmy Butler has played in since he joined the team. Tonight they beat the Knicks on the road and climbed into 6th place in the Western Conference. I hope the team continues to win as I want to see Curry back in the post season.

    Lakers at Celtics tomorrow. :)

That game will be fun to watch.

  • erikthredderikthredd Posts: 9,444 ✭✭✭✭✭

The nostalgia we get when these two teams meet is always fun but I wouldn't be surprised if tomorrow night's game is a stinker depending on which players are available for both teams. The C's have been sitting players either due to injury or just load management in preparation for the playoffs and with the Lakers sitting in the #2 seed out West they're sort of in the same position as Boston.

Or maybe Boston's been holding out players so they'd be ready for the Lakers game in Boston. They sat everyone leading up to that last BOS/LA meeting a few months back and the Celtics got smoked with a full rotation lol. As a fan, I'd hope that the team is resting players for the playoffs not for beating the Lakers in a meaningless regular season game in March, even if its a home game.

LeBron leaves with a groin injury - must have bee too much jumping for his 14 rebounds!

For all of the talk about Lebron and how he's still making it look easy at the age of 40 (and he was right up until getting hurt last night) how about the energy that Al Horford is bringing at 38? He just outplayed Nikola Jokic in a game last weekend and last night continually held his own defensively against both Lebron & Luka. He's going to be tough to replace once he calls it a career in the near future.

Another thought, Luka is definitely an enigma and you can sort of understand some of the reasoning behind the Mavs front office going in a different direction (even though that one looks like its entirely crapped the bed in less than 30 days.)
He's phenomenal on offense but continually gets beat on the other end and at least 3-4 games times a game looks like his body is about to break down. its very reminiscent of Larry Bird's later years when age and injuries finally caught up to him yet Luka is just 26. Here's hoping that some of that Lebron durability starts to rub off on him and he finally gets it.

Overall, that game definitely lived up to the hype and would make for a fantastic 7 game series in June. 🤞
There are also a couple other good matchups today with Den/OKC & Cle/Mil.

  • Steven59Steven59 Posts: 9,310 ✭✭✭✭✭

Luka seemed hurting too last night but tried playing through it and ended up with over 30............

"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"

  • erikthredderikthredd Posts: 9,444 ✭✭✭✭✭

Although Lebron is known to ham it up when it comes to his injuries, I doubt that the team would put publicly say that he'll miss at least 1-2 weeks if he was just faking an injury. The guy is up there in age and the slightest muscle tweak needs to be taken seriously, especially when their currently sitting in the #2 seed. When healthy they're a legit contender, maybe not on the BOS/CLE/OKC level but definitely in that next level below.

Luka on the other hand, i'm starting to believe that he tends to ham up the "injuries" as well. He's spends half the game holding onto different body parts like he may need to be carried off the court on a stretcher, then at games end he's flirting with a 30piece triple double on 50% shooting lol.

  • Steven59Steven59 Posts: 9,310 ✭✭✭✭✭

Well with the playoffs drawing nearer all injuries are going to be dealt with much more care.

Does Zion Williamson even play anymore for the Pelicans or is he just permanently injured?

Funny how the highly touted and anticipated Zion v. LeBron matchups have rarely if ever happened.

Zion’s bulk (both when he has been in shape and when he has been out of shape) has contributed to his never ending string of injuries.

  • MaywoodMaywood Posts: 2,635 ✭✭✭✭✭

We watched a Netflix show last week which focused on 5-NBA players during the 2023-24 season, among them Jason Tatum and Lebron James. During the Lebron segments his conditioning program was mentioned and the reporting was that he spends $1million annually, but it was never really verified by him or anyone else. Whatever the amount I'm sure it's sizeable and I really doubt he "fakes" injuries, or needs to. He's just a recipient of the hate he's enjoyed his whole career. Just to name a few, I don't ever recall other 20+ year athletes like Tom Brady, Nolan Ryan, Robert Parrish accused of such things. A 20 year athlete performing at a high level is someone who should be enjoyed and expected to show a little wear and tear on their bodies.

Lebron's on court acting history is pretty well documented on YT but here's someone pointing out just some of his antics
(but not even remotely close to all of it) (and I know Stephen A. is an insert adjective here, that doesn't change the fact that Lebron has been faking this stuff for over 20+yrs.)

There's one thing being mad that you didn't get a call go your way but I don't ever remember Tom Brady, Nolan Ryan or Robert Parish throwing a tantrum like an prepubescence girl. Floor stomping, hand wringing and if his hair was long enough, he would have probably pulled out a few of those hair implants lol.

I've only ever knocked Lebron for when he repeatedly did this type of crap.

He's sort of different kind of dude compared to most NBA stars and sort of shies away from the limelight when it comes to commercials and product branding. He spends a lot of time at places like Harvard & MIT doing speaking appearances and workshops and he also recently started up his own sneaker company. https://sneakernews.com/2024/09/24/jaylen-brown-741-performance-shoe-brand/

Jalen Brown is to the current Celtics what Scottie Pippen was to the 1990’s Chicago Bulls.

I was able to see Jalen Brown play 2 or 3 college hoops games at Cal.

He was a heck of a good college player, but while watching him I had no clue that he would be so successful in the NBA.

Cavs down 13 at half. This game just doesn't have the feel of a comeback win. It seems they refuse to work the ball inside and are constantly jacking up the 3 ball! 5-19 from 3.
If the Cavs are constantly getting hurt and have to sit players out I don't see how they can beat Boston in a 7 game series.
