  • I took the coin to a shop today, and the guy said he never saw one in this nice condition. He said the turnaround time is taking forever. The shop has coins that went out back in June, and haven't gotten them back yet.

With that time frame it sounds like you submitted to pcgs. Here is the page for their estimated turn around times and slide down toward bottom (currently 40 - 45 days). If there is any variety attribution in the submission then that will add time. The days are business days or about 5 days to a week (holidays and other don't count plus shipping time). Good luck.

Is that for NGC or PCGS?

Again, I would strongly consider using CACG first. Even if you grade it with P or N, in order to maximize value it will need CAC approval. NGC express is $80 and then as a 67 you'll pay ANOTHER $68 with CAC stickering and wain ANOTHER 2 weeks before the coin is retail ready.

If you submit to CACG as express, its only $10 more ($45) than the regular ($35) and then you will wait only 2-3 weeks to get it back. The grading fees are less, the turnaround times are significantly less, and the market value is more.

Like I said, Im happy to help if you want. Im an AD at both CACG and PCGS, and my private insurance by using my shipping label would cover any risk of loss. I wouldn't even charge you, i would just ask that you cover my costs and shipping expenses.

And then if you dont like the CAcg grade, Id at least be able to see the coin in hand and tell you if i think we try to get a 67, at which probably want to go NGC. Then if it does 67, it still has to go to CAC stickering anyway.

  • The guy told me he'd ask his buddy which is grading better. NGC or PCGS he doesn't use other companies.

That's the cleanest cheek I've ever seen on any CC Morgan. I got 12 of them from the Mint in 1979. Eight of them were so ugly that I thought they'd bite me if I held them. I immediately sold those 8 to Superior Coin for what I paid for them. Ugliest Unc. Morgans I've ever seen.

The TPGS are about 1/2 to 3/4 point loose on these coins, as they had to travel by stagecoach to San Francisco. I'd guess that one is at least a 6, possibly a 7. By all means get it graded.

I would submit to NGC all day long. They are a tad loose on GSAs, plus you can still use the original packaging.

If it goes to CACG my guess is that it'll return as Unc Details Altered Surfaces. :D

Woo hoooo!! You got yourself around $1,00 right there, congrats on the high grade. Very clean cheek, I like it at 66.

You mean NGC? Do you have any more pictures of the coin now, or maybe NGC photovision you could show us? If it's a shot 67, you'll probably have to try a couple times.
