I had to sell a 64 Mantle PSA 7 I really liked, but this is such an amazing set. It showcases his youth (picture and writeup on the back - taking over for DiMaggio).
I agree with you in that it is one of the most beautiful sets ever produced…the first all color photographic set without graphic designs, player and team names or facsimile autographs to distract from the beauty.
I purchased this last Friday at the Burbank Card Show at the Anaheim Convention Center. 1970 hall of famers in PSA 8/9 condition were extremely hard to find. Munson is my all time favorite player.
I’ve been trying to find a nice example of this card for almost 10 years. It’s somewhat low pop, but has been on eBay repeatedly during that time. Every single time it was tilted and ugly. Victory at last! 😂
Always wild to wonder how 99 out of 100 cards came off the machine tilted or OC or just not 8/9 and then boom 1 and sweet.......,congrats on the find!
Yes. I’ve always thought low population cards are actually way tougher than they seem, since a good chunk of the few that get a high grade are usually bad examples.
I thought I was aware of all of the Johnny Bench cards that were out there, however, I discovered something new. I picked up a variation of his 1970's Home Plate restaurant postcard. The one I have graded by SGC seems to be the most plentiful. The ungraded one that I just got does not have the same glossy stock of the SGC graded. In addition, you can see that the face of Bench is different on each of the cards.

I love cards like this! Congrats!
Do you think it signifies a different season and is there any way to tell?
I assume the restaurant is long gone but perhaps there’s some paperwork or print adds from the time period in periodicals local to the restaurant.

Just got a super nice sgc 6 1969 nolan ryan. Centering looks 55/45 ish. maybe 56/44. Truly nice card. Won it on ebay a couple of weeks ago. The corners look great. Looks better than a 6 to me.
I finally got around to grading my remaining 13 packs and cellos from a group buy/rip via BBCE on these boards some 10+ years ago...I'm a hockey guy and know nothing about these packs but, I have to admit, these kind of look cool.
i won this one last week. i have wanted this one for a while. i have a ten of the tiffany and opee chee but i now i have the base card in a psa ten.
also i have been trying to get all of the star white border cards for my heritage master set.

Just picked up another 1973 “household name.” 😂 Gary lost 11 straight decisions for the expansion Padres in 1969! 👍
More shiny stuff to the PC..........
He'd fit right in with the past 2015 Pirates.
Shown raw in the July pick up thread. Just got the grade yesterday....

I picked up this 1984 Rookie Borden's sticker of Eric Davis. There is only one graded a PSA 8 and this SGC 8, nothing higher.
For the 61 auto set:
Finally added a Rose rookie. I’ve been looking for a reasonably priced, presentable, and centered example. This one will do for now.
Andy
Centering as well as image being skewed are so problematic for the Rose RC. Very nice centered example w/o being skewed…congrats!
Picked up another Ted Williams card.
Got these beauts yesterday.
Also
Needed to replace my 73 Clemente and liked this one
Picked up a few of these at Costco today
Nice roughy on Roberto!

These are metal signs, just shy of 6X8 inches each, and only slightly bigger than an actual wax box lid.

These metal signs are roughly 7.75 inches X 11.75 inches.

Beautiful centering on the Munson RC...
Thank you plus it was recently graded which is nice.

Nice '72 Bateman! there's something to be said for finding a problem card in pristine condition.
Nice Bateman!

There are usually five of these….
….for every one of these….
The borders on the nice Culp look smaller, any chance that 1 in 100 had a haircut?
9 centering?
Is the back 90/10 or does Beckett use the same standards (65/35?) for front AND back.
A few returned from a recent sub:
My cards on COMC
the first three should have at least been 1/2's. the centering on all 3 is great. I would give the herzog an 8.

Good question. Not sure. The back looks 75/25. But do think the front looks better than 9.
