Registry sets with CAC still aren’t accepting new coins

CatbertCatbert Posts: 7,146 ✭✭✭✭✭

Tried to update a set with 3 additional CAC’d PCGS slabs with no success. Set registry customer support says the issue is still unresolved with CAC. Assuming this continues, I may have to delete my CAC sets here and just do CACG registry sets.

    Can you elaborate?
    What coins, what sets?
I've never had a problem adding a CAC coin to any of my sets
Unless you are talking about Newly made CAC coins

I recently made a new CAC 1912 quarter eagle and could not add it to my CAC Indian quarter eagle set. I sent in a request for it to be added through the electronic function and got what felt like a bot e-mail "coin does not fit slot" or some such. I asked for explanation (since it clearly does fit) and never got any reply.

"We are currently experiencing a some internal issues with our CAC sets, which is likely why your coins aren't being added to the set. We will be sure to inform the community when we're able to figure this one out."

Was able to place the CAC'd coins in my inventory, but not in my Indian quarter eagle set. All OGHs.

Edit to add: While allowed into my inventory, there is no recognition that they are CAC'd.

I'm sure you ran the cert numbers through CAC to insure that they are cac'd, winesteven had an issue a while back when he found out that one of his CAC'd coins wasn't!

Looks like the same issue that has been a problem with the NGC registry for over a year now. The NGC registry has been unable to verify the status of CAC beaned coins since June of 2023. While no one has ever given any reason it appears that the issue is on the CAC side of the equation. The most recent update from the NGC registry staff is that CAC has indicated the verification connectivity issue will be fixed in the future, how far into the future is unknown. I assume the issue here will be resolved at the same time.

Well, it was only a matter of time. I just got a 1939-D Lincoln Cent with a CAC and it will not load in my CAC Lincoln Set.
I did notice that when I looked up the cert on CAC it wasn't a Legacy so mybe it was just stickered.
I sent off an email on Sunday night, still waiting for a response.

I just got an update yesterday. Still nothing being done.

Edit: I was able to load one CAC coin, but not the other in the same series. So, really no progress on the root issue.

Does your CAC coin that won't load a Legacy coin? I can't help but wonder if only the recent CAC stickered coins are not showing up in which case it could be someone elses problem/issue

Yeah, it's hard to complete a CAC set if they won't allow in freshly CAC'd slabs. If they have no plans to fix they should terminate the registries. Otherwise this would seem to be a fairly simple issue (perhaps requiring legal data sharing agreement updates between the two companies) to resolve.

@PCGS_Hy Are you able to get any extra info on this?

  • CatbertCatbert Posts: 7,146 ✭✭✭✭✭

Todd Pollock knows how to fix. Wish PCGS would reach out to him @blu62vette . Seems this could be simpler than envisioned if only someone would make the effort.

Well they are approving my new slot requests for 2024 coins within a day or two so that is an improvement. The CAC thing is either technical or legal or both. Technically it shouldn't be a big deal, but legal stuff can get hung up but it's been long enough they should be able to resolve that or determine that they won't offer it anymore.

    Submarine, or Titanic.

All depends on upper management hiring someone as good as Paulina again to communicate again to its stakeholders and rejuvenate the registry, or let it sink to the bottom.

Without new US sets that make sense and are being asked for, erroneous set compositions being fixed when people point them out, timely awards (even if they are not expensive), and IT support, it is a lost cause.

At the very least, give the users a reason to believe that somebody there is actually paying attention, because as it stands now, with SO many aspects of the registry being outright broken, we really don't.

    Hello,

Thank you for your patience while I was trying to look into this for you, and I apologize for the delay in responding. Unfortunately, I do not have any updates at the moment. I would recommend trying to reach out to our Set Registry team directly, either by email at setregistry@collectors.com or by phone at 877-888-1318.

I understand that this is not the answer you wanted to hear after waiting for me for a month and I sincerely apologize for this.

Regarding any delays with Set Registry inquiries or requests, there was a recent focus on getting the 2024 Set Registry Awards out. If you have run into issues or are missing your awards from this year or last year, please give our Set Registry team a call or email using the above information. If your inquiry or request seems to have been missed in the last few weeks, try contacting them again as it may have been missed or not received.

    Hy,

Thanks for trying to get some info for us. :)

It appears that PCGS cannot AUTOMATICALLY verify certain CAC stickered coins for registry purposes. And, that this has been the case for some time.

If PCGS cannot 'fix' this situation in the short term, what is the plan to accommodate registry set participants? For example, is there a workaround option (i.e., a MANUAL intervention). While NOT ideal, it would at least allow affected members to update their sets.

First if you guys can't see the writing is on the wall for ALL registry sets. First we all lost the ease to find coins to build our sets when our host decided to take that away, no asking just got rid of a GREAT feature. I built the 183 coin Washington Quarter set with varieties and can tell you back than you could find any coin somewhere and it was easy. Gone.

No lunch at the last Fun show and no calendars. All the new varieties if you want them added to a set YOU have to request each set one at a time( and own that coin) and they will than approve them a few days later. In my 15 years they have never added a NEW Major Variety to the set but have done the minor in the CPG.

I found two of the new quarters and requested all the sets and thought I would try and add one to the Major set and to my surprise they added it.(Everyone at 100 percent lost that when I added mine) That is when I realized there is no one there to make those decisions and they just put any new Variety coin in any set you ask them too.

I am now at the point it is either time to sell off the set or move it all across the street to CAC and see what happens over there. It is sad to me that we lost some of those folks who built the registry into a great feature only to watch years later it falling to pieces.

    Agreed, in the long term.

For whatever reason, there does not appear to be a 'quick/easy' fix. If there was, presumably, PCGS would have implemented it already.

I am merely suggesting that it is time for PCGS put a "band-aid" on the situation. Doing this will:
    ~ demonstrate their commitment to continuing the CAC aspect of the registry;
    ~ mollify the impacted customers;
~ and, give them some more time to address the 'root cause' of the issue, without continuing to inconvenience their customers.

    It is sad to see.

I have been active on the registry for nearly 20 years, and it used to be fun and there was great communication when a few really great people were involved.

Unfortunately, it has dropped down to basically no communication and the IT support is nearly non-existent.

I retired dozens of registry sets and recommend making backups of all your coin inventories while they are still available.

  • WAYNEASWAYNEAS Posts: 6,712 ✭✭✭✭✭

I have downloaded all of my Pcgs inventory onto a memory stick.
I have also copied all of my inventory onto the MY COLLECT site as a second backup.
Maybe some of you guys can talk to Todd or Ian about starting some CAC registry sets.
Todd is very receptive to building new sets and likes input from the members.
He has always responded quickly to my requests or issues.
I have not "Retired" any of my sets as of yet thou I now have totally given up on contacting set registry to try and fix anything or get an answer from.

No other registries would matter though. The PCGS registry was the premier registry. Maybe CAC will be now but I could care less about a 'MyCollect' registry.

It is sad that PCGS seems to just not want to spend the resources on IT to fix other issues too. They did improve the online submission forms if you've done that lately. Now the forms are more compact to more easily fit on one page and the credit card entry is better.

I will give it a little more time before I deregister my sets and transfer all my info to CACG's registry. Unfortunate, but necessary.
