    Very nice and congrats!

    It looks undergraded IMHO.

Quite a rare coin, and neat to own as such.

I wonder what happened to the original mintage of 5000?

IMO the value is reasonable in relation to the rarity, due to relatively limited demand. Consider what a US Large cent of equivalent rarity might be worth, likely multiples of this piece.

    Hi Skier,

It looks XF to me too! Doug Winter felt the reverse was just slightly too warn for XF-40. Thank you!

Only 1039 1883 proof seated Liberty quarters where minted.

Also your 1860 s gold eagle looks good for VF 35, maybe it will CAC if you send it in.

That is a beautiful proof Seated Quarter of a low mintage date! I will drive out to CAC in NJ, if no one has attempted CAC on this coin. Will ask the seller. Thanks!

The 1854-S gold dollar is not rare, but I like it because it's the only affordable gold coin that was issued during the San Francisco Mint's first year of operations.

    Great strike and luster!

The only thing I know about these early SF coins is that they were used more in circulation than Philly coins, even $10 gold! It seems that a SF coin with the same mintage as a Philly coin during this early period will be rarer. As an example, this date with the 5K mintage is even rarer than an 1876 $10 with a mintage of 687 (about 45-50 known). There were more collectors in the east too that kept some of the Philadelphia coins.

Hope this series gets more popular, large cents look out!

Nothing that qualifies as rare in this group, but I love early SF coins and have a small collection of them.

    1) 1850 Moffat $5. An iconic pioneer gold issue from the most famous of private coiners.

    2) 1854-S $20. Inaugural denomination produced by the SF Mint and the first US coin made west of the Mississippi.

    3) 1855-S $1. First half dollar produced by the SF Mint, yet few were saved, making it a tough semi-key.

    4) 1859-S $1. First silver dollar made in SF, and known as “America’s First Trade Dollar” because it was made expressly for overseas commerce.

    5) 1870-S $10. Of the legendary 1870 Granite Lady cornerstone coins, I believe this is the scarcest denomination that is not unobtanium.

    6) 1915-S Pan-Pac 50c. The first commemorative half produced at a branch mint, and symbolic of SF’s rebirth from one of the worst natural disasters in U.S. history (1906 quake).

A very well thought out set, with lovely and rare coins! My local coin club president asked me to do a presentation on the SF mint. You know a lot more about it than I do! Gotta research.

That 66-s is a prized rarity and likely condition census. I like the blue toning as well and originality as well. The 60-s is quite nice as well! I was happy to have a 60-s XF-45.

Very nice coin! It's cool that you were able to attribute an 1887-s, since the date has so many variations! Some of which are subtle.

This one isn't rare but is really hard to find with any kind of eye appeal.

Both of your coins are especially nice. The 1872-s is a great date! Way back, in the 1990's I had a F-15. This was back when NYC shows had coins like that.

Keen eye buddy! Good luck finding an AU-58...That would be a prize for sure. They are very rare. Mine is the MS-66+ ex. Eliasberg coin, and I never get tired of staring at it. Best, Eldo.
