Not really a hammered strike, but still real nice.

Luster looks subdued - there are signs the coin is overdipped.
Right obverse field is critical to grade (as Laura would say - the dreaded right obverse field) and looks free of marks as does the sun ( another focal point for grading).
Luster is king so I will guess 65. Very common date.

Exactly my concern. Looks to be old style scanner photo.

That coin looks like an MS65 to me..... and it was a very good year ;) Cheers, RickO

These pics are very different. The original ones appeared to have luster breaks on Miss Liberty's right breast, and wear on the Eagle's breast feathers.

Elcontador: the original picture is the enlarged version of the complete holder. I guess in magnifying the coin it might have made it look worst.

I too love these old slabs and especially desire these rattler walkers in MS-63 grade.

Was the first photo shot from a scanner?

Oreville: both pictures are the same. The original post picture of the obverse (enlarged) is just a edited/cropped version of the full slab picture.
The photograph was taken with an iPad or iPhone (not a scanner) I forget which I used.

    .
This is interesting and is kind of similar to a PBS NOVA show that I watched (I found it on YouTube and is below). The show was about the brain and what/how it interprets viewed objects and other stuff. In one part of the show they change surrounding colors and show how it changes the colors of the object someone is viewing. The brain interprets the object differently. It starts with the blue black or white gold dress and then another example. This begins at about the 14 minute mark of the video and goes to about 17 minute mark. The next about two minutes talks of 'how this works'.

Anyway, the above made me wonder if that is what is going on for some with your cropping of the coin from the holder.
