I love them all, but especially the 09 and 19. That's a rare grade and they're probably nicer than most 63's.

No, PCGS does not recognize PL in the circulated grades, only MS….although they really should. 😬

That is tremendous and after seeing the subjects it's a wonder more didn't upgrade. Nice coins.

    Congratulations on your results:

    1. Getting four of eight to upgrade is truly a fantastic result, considering PCGS graders, each with a finalizer, specifically said in the past that none of the eight merited a plus!
    2. My understanding (and experience) seems to indicate that PCGS has tightened up over the past nine months or so. As such, congratulations, but the bottom line is the coins talk for themselves. They merit the pluses!
    3. I’m glad to see that you recognize the benefit of maximizing the value of your coins. My sense is way too many collectors won’t take those actions. You’ve been well rewarded!

Nice! Just curious, were you expecting the color to solely contribute to the plus designation?

Not at all, actually. On these particular coins, they have very nice surfaces and excellent luster for the grade. In my opinion, the attractive toning helped but definitely wasn't the sole contributor to the plus designation.

Just curious, do you think that one or some of them do not deserve the plus designation?

    Dave

  • jacrispiesjacrispies Posts: 1,021 ✭✭✭✭✭

@drddm Not in particular. I am a technical grader so I would assume an AU-58+ has luster of a low mint state. Judging luster and surfaces by truviews are close to impossible for me.

All the coins look very choice, I see nothing that would prevent these coins from getting a plus.👍🏻

So why didn't they give them a plus initially?

Glad you're happy with the grades
    Question:
Did you lose the pedigree? OR did they reapply it
Also, will you get the gold sticker back?

No, I did not lose the pedigree. I indicated on my submission form that I wanted to keep the pedigree and it will be on the new insert as well. I’ve done this many times without a problem.

As for the gold CAC sticker, when using the reconsideration service at PCGS, if a coin upgrades the cert # stays the same, so all I have to do is send the coin back to CAC, pay the new $5 restickering fee and they will put it back on.

It's very tough to get the 58+ grade at PCGS so that should more than pay for all the costs of submission.

You are correct that’s it not easy to get an AU58+, especially in the capped bust half series, of course that’s just my experience.

And I was fortunate to have gotten these plusses using my 8 coin free voucher so my out of pocket costs were minimal.

How would you feel if these came back in MS61 or MS62 holders? For me personally, it would be less desirable, by far, than a 58+ CAC grade. It remains, as my wife says, "a weirdity" of the grading system we all know and love.

Gorgeous coins in a really fun series.

    Thanks, Bryce!

Great question, and I completely agree with you. I actually have tried numerous times to send in certain AU58’s in hopes of getting that ever so desirable plus, and on a few occasions the coins have come back as a 61 or 62. I will always prefer a 58+, but for the 61’s I now have I will likely crack them out and submit them for regrading. My biggest fear is that they come back in a details holder….but hopefully not. Personally, I am not one to play the crackout game. In all the years I have gotten upgrades, I have always sent my coins in for regrade in their holders. So soon I will be in uncharted waters….wish me luck! 😬
