New collector here!

BoloBolo Posts: 125 ✭✭✭✭

Per Catbert's request, posting an intro!

I've been collecting for just over 40 years now, since I was a little kid at the coin shop poring thru a bag of wheaties poured out on the counter looking for ones I didn't have in my blue whitman folders yet. Theres been a few pauses here and there but I always come back. About 25 years ago I started a Morgan dollar collection and 19th century type set (no gold). As time has passed I've started going back thru some of my earlier collections as well, looking to upgrade very worn coins I pulled from circulation and things I could afford when I was 10. Currently doing a gold type set, finishing up Peace dollars in MS63 because why not, Buffalo nickels, Winged Liberty dimes, and Standing Liberty quarters. Also going back and getting my 19th century stuff slabbed - my first submission is currently in "encapsulation" and it'll be interesting to see how that turns out.

I also prefer a nicely toned coin to one that is blast white, so here is today's coin content from my SL quarter collection I'm working on:

Welcome Bolo. Looking forward to hearing more about your journeys in collecting.

I am a newer collector (started April 2020), and I primarily focus on U.S. Half Cents and Type Coins. Early copper is my favorite.

Sometimes wonderful collectors join this forum only not to be heard from afterward.
That would be sad if that ended up being you.

Welcome to the forum, and very nice intro and SLQ! Looking forward to seeing some of the coins in your gold type set. Now do yourself a favor, upload a new image for your avatar picture, whether its a coin from your collection or whatever you want it to be. The default smiley face is an image that I and many others associate with the users that spam the forum with parking lot coins. If you click your username in the top right, you'll see a little icon where you can "edit profile" and then "change my picture".

Well we don't want that. Avatar updated!

    Seriously.

You just lost @ricko with your intro.

Good luck on your slabbing, I hope you fare well.

Nice introduction. Beautiful coin! Welcome to the CU forums!

Good luck on your first submission. I'm waiting as well for grades to be released by PCGS after two weeks in QA. It's like waiting for class grades to be posted, except it takes months to post them.

Thanks. I tried to pick ones for my club submissions that I wouldn't be worried would get a "details" grade.

Well kinda, I used some Brasso to clean up some war nickels I found while coin roll hunting.
They look REALLY clean though 🥹

Beautiful SLQ. Love the toning that adds such distinction to the piece. I too like toned classic type!

    WOW, Really?
I didn't know that my avatar would put me in that category!
Is that something like judging a book by it's cover?
I like my avatar, it depicts me perfectly. a person with a magnifying glass looking at his coins.
