A little-known fact concerning a great Numismatist - -and tell me one about yourself.

The MGMH holds a large and broadly representative collection of meteorites. Meteorites are extraordinary things. No other object that you can hold in your hand is as exotic or as old. Meteorites are rocks that most commonly originate from the Asteroid Belt. Rocks blasted off parent bodies by an impact or collision will orbit the Sun just as the planets do. Some small fraction of these orbiting rocks cross the Earth's orbit and, coming under the influence of Earth's gravity, fall into our atmosphere. There, momentarily glowing due to friction, they become "shooting stars" or meteors. If they survive their fiery descent to Earth, they are meteorites. Click here to find answers to frequently asked questions about meteorites.
The meteorite collection includes nearly 600 distinct meteorites and about 1,500 specimens ranging from <0.1 g to ~180 kg. It includes the collections of J. Lawrence Smith, a famous 19th century American chemist, and Q. David Bowers, a contemporary collector particularly enthusiastic about pallasites.

When I was a youngster, rock collecting was a focus of mine. Had all sorts of quartz and other minerals. No meteorites though... that I know of - would not have known if I did have one. Of all that I collected, I still have one arrowhead, and a strange green rock that I believe is actinolite. Cheers, RickO
I once sat next to @Anaconda at a Baltimore Crab-Fest!!
I also collected rocks. At about 8 years old I found some rocks in a roadside drainage ditch that were all 'pitted'.
I thought they looked like moon rocks, so I made a cardboard sign saying, "MOON ROCKS FOR SALE" and set up on the side of the rural road. I think I actually sold one.

In December, a mature king penguin walked up to me and in penguin speak, introduced itself. Penguins have approached me before (being birds, they are curious), but once they realized that I was not another penguin, they left.
For some reason, I replied in Italian, and continued speaking to it. It hung around with me and a woman I was with. After about five minutes and taking some pics, we left, because while the weather was ideal for penguins, it was miserable for people.

When I was younger I liked rocks and gems. Not so much anymore, but, it's no secret that I like antique and new silver wares.

The King Penguin must have been thinking that you were underdressed for the formal occasion and even worse... failed to bring chilled hor dourves to the Party. Maybe next time...
Seriously- great picture and it looks as if that was quite an experience-

Here are some rocks. Probably not any collectable ones I would guess.

I am a senior citizen and this was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I was also approached by a curious baby elephant seal. As it weighed between 600 and 800 pounds, I make a quick exit.

It may have wanted to cuddle or nurse... in either case you might not have survived!
At one time I had a nearly complete collection of Ethiopian stamps. In 1996 I won the Bank Note Reporter Most Inspirational Exhibit Award at the Memphis Paper Money Show. The exhibit featured Lady Lavery notes of ireland.
I composed and engineered music for TV for several years. Shifted careers for family stability after kids came along, but my catalog is still being used today on CNBC, Discovery, Travel, etc. One episode I wrote for on History Channel featured ancient coins which was a fun connection to my favorite hobby.
I know a few that collect bullet casings and related items. Whatever we're happy with...
I have two holes in one and won my small town (pop. 20,000) city golf championship in 1979.
There's only one of me and I don't pick sides.
