The 1877 IHC and the 1909 s vdb are 2 must haves in my collection at some point.
I saw an 1877 in a coin shop about a month ago in an anacs g-6 holder. It was cool to hold one, but was lacking alot of detail.
Anyway, i just want to see some examples you guys have and any story you might have about the hunt you did for yours.
Thanks

My dad bought this one somewhere around 1970 for $100
Mine is in a much higher grade than I believe you’re looking for, but you asked. See below.
The story is wonderful!!!
I was putting together a very “unique” Indian Head Cent set. I challenged myself to make sure that every coin graded at least MS65 by PCGS, no BN (Brown) suffixes, and merited both a CAC sticker and Rick Snow’s Eagle Eye Photo Seal. Yes, having both stickers has a lot of redundancy, but I learned that CAC and Rick Snow each place different weights on various factors, so having both stickers on a coin is having the best of both worlds. While a few collectors have put together sets that are 100% CAC, and a few other collectors have sets that are 100% Photo Seal, according to Rick Snow, mine is the first and only set ever put together where every coin has both stickers.
Enough of the background. To accomplish this task, I needed a LOT of outside help. As such, among other things, I let it be known on this forum the project I was working on, and sure enough, the wonderful people here gave me help. Among them was @Tomthemailcarrier , who read on the boards about my venture, and was kind enough to sell me his double stickered 1877, shown below. Rick Snow says this RB coin is 90% Red.
My set is current ranked #6.

@winesteven ... That is a beautiful IHC. I had one when I was a youngster, among the coins that disappeared when I joined the Navy. Not a high grade coin at all, picked from change back then. Only sure I had one since I did have a list of coins in my collection back then. Did not know it was special then... Heck, there were no coin shops, no TPG's, no internet, no c oin clubs... just kids collecting neat coins. Cheers, RickO
I just happened to bring mine along for the day….

@winesteven, It is gratifying to see the 1877 IHC from my collection has found a fine home. Your set of IHC’s with both CAC & Rick Snow’s eagle eye stickers is an amazing accomplishment. It required patience, an eye for quality coins and a bit of inspiration to come up with the concept. Congratulations on achieving your goal!
Purchased @Denver ANA from Rick Snow. CAC’d too.
Another 63BN. I sold it with the rest of my IHC collection a few years ago.
Lance.
nice coins. I have always wanted a 1877 IHC, but not yet opened the bank to secure the necessary loan.
Winesteven: I think that your set is quite an accomplishment. not only did you need a lot of help to do so, but also no doubt, a lot of $$. thanks for sharing.
I love your 1877 @winesteven
But I've got to say, I LUST for @Tomthemailcarrier 's example!!

No gots. I've bid on quite a few but no winning bids.

I bought this 1877 Indian Cent raw from a collector when I was a dealer. I sent it to NGC who gave it an AU-58, which I thought was too high. The piece really should have some mint luster to rate that grade.
This 1909-S-VDB cent was the last piece I needed to complete the 1909 to 1940 album I started when I was 10 years old. I bought it 23 years later so obviously Lincoln Cents were not high on my priority list. I
It came with ANACS papers (This was the early 1980s). This coin has been counterfeited for more time than I have been a collector, so the papers were a must. This was before slabs.
ANACS graded the coin VF-20. When I sent it to NGC, they gave it an EF-40, which is actually the correct grade.
I paid $210 for my first 1877 Indian circa 1970. It was graded Fine. I saw one in a VF-30 holder over the weekend that was not as sharp as the piece I once had.
Nothing special, but it's mine!

Great thread. Keep ‘em coming.

Fun thread - I still love Indian Cents, even after selling mine.
Couldn't find a RD coin that I liked, so bought this PCGS 66RB coin - 3 different looks at the obverse color.
I’ve gotta get one in MS!

I had nice chocolate brown PCGS XF45 examples of all the key and semi-key dates about 20 years ago, before I sold my entire set. Never owned the 1877 though. It’s on my list of nice-to-have key dates. I love all the examples in this thread. Beauties!

VG-10 PCGS One of the very few coins I've had sent in for grading.
