Username Change Now Possible

I saw the dark side thread on changing your username and thought I would mention it here. For those wishing to change their name - it’s now possible! Go to Edit Profile.
I’ve changed mine from J2035 to match my eBay handle and my DBA name.

I’m somewhat sorry to see this. Unless there is some pressing reason to change a username (just didn’t like it isn’t one), people shouldn’t. This will help the scammers. It also makes it confusing when people you have grown accustomed to suddenly become something else and you are trying to figure out who the poster used to be.
I agree with this statement. I am a member of another board that is quite active and they have allowed folks to change user names for years and quite often I find myself wondering who is writing to me or attempting to talk to me. It has definitely limited my participation on that other forum.

If you change your username does all of your old posts and pictures transfer with your new name also?
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
It's been possible since I joined a few years ago. I was originally PCGSFreddie but the Moderator asked me to change it because they felt it would create confusion and thus I became WQuarterFreddie.
Don't see this as being a game changer or reason to leave the forum.🤔
Awesome News!!!!

I changed my username instantly !!!!!
I believe this is a relatively new feature. It sounds like you had a special circumstance.
I didn’t take the decision to change mine lightly. For me, it’s about consistency across platforms. I also felt my prior name lacked meaning or identity as it was a random string of letters and numbers.
I understand why this ability to change would upset people though.
EOC is that you?
The world has gone mad!🤣😂
So who is this new guy called ctf_error_coins? He'll need to earn his reputation over time.

Who are you?
You'll find some forum members are rude to newbies.
😉
I don’t like this one bit. You can anger a bunch of people, change your name, edit your posts, and cover up the whole thing. This place could become unruly as you become reincarnated with a new username, and the move also protects scammers as TomB suggested.
Yes Indeed.
I have been wanting to do this for years.
It now matches my ebay handle and my Instagram handle.
My website is ctf error coins dot com.
I will probably change my avatar to really confuse people with the below image
@PCGS_Moderator
Please clarify if this is a new option and if so why it is now available 🤔
I think everyone who posted on that other thread, you know the one that begins with a "V" and ends with a "X" should change their user names now before its too late!
If the change is retroactively reflected in all prior posts, people will be able to run, but not hide. Also, people have always been able to alter old posts. The only real protection against that is the goback machine, and the quoting of posts when responding to them.
Now I can change my name and my profile photo every day!
Geez, I already have enough challenges when forum members change their picture since I tend to remember the picture more so than the forum name. Not a fan of this new feature.

What are we going to do if @ricko decides to change his name?
No more ricko approved.
If someone changes their name, someone else can adopt the old name and wreak havoc!
Also, what about "ignore" lists? Will the name change flow across the whole site? 🤔
Edit: (I’ll forget something)
So can I change my name to EOC? Hopefully not, as I can see that being abused. That being said, I see both sides of the coin here.
Nice!
@ricko could change his name to "Cheers"!

@Catbert Don't go changing your name to Dogbert cuz I was thinking about that one.
OK, but look out for @Coinbert !

Cool, cool error. Okay if I use this picture for my avatar as I change my handle to mr1913s?

Sorry that one is already taken, but you tagged them.
Maybe you can get them to change their name to Catbert.
If someone takes the name "catbox" I'm going to have to seriously revisit my involvement with this forum.

Not crazy about the potential for abuse, but I assume once it becomes abused, it'll be disabled.

There might be limitation here how often one can change their username. On ebay, one could change their name only every thirty days. One of my biggest beefs about ebay forum is one is limited to 5 minutes to make edits to post. After 5 minutes time has elapsed, the post sticks for good. It's great here in that there is no time limit at all to edit post up to and including total removal. It's impossible to please everyone.

i could change to : “ The Edge” ? cool
@mr1874 "It's great here in that there is no time limit at all to edit post up to and including total removal."
Yeah, then you can delete over 100 of your stupid comments and make a mess of the forum.
Just put your old username in your signature I did that today. I am glad I could change my username I have not collected US coins for years. Board members asked me multiple times why I was in the world coin section with a name like KingofMorganDollars so yes I for one am happy I could make the change.
To be honest I doubt I will ever change it again. Those that keep changing will be a problem but I doubt most long term members will be doing that over and over again.

Maybe someone here can reach out to the administrators and see if they can limit it to once per year (changing our username frequency) and that no one can use previous used usernames for a minimum of say 12 months or better yet never.
They may have security measures in place already I have no idea.

I metal detected long before I was in to coins and/or bullion stacking. What originally lead me to this forum was the metal detecting forum. My friends all made fun of me because I never found silver when they were all pulling up silver like it was going out of style. All I could get was clad. They nicknamed me The Cladiator as a result. So naturally that had to be my forum name when I joined up. Never gonna change.

A quick look at J2035, no wait I mean Project Numismatics,
).
and it appears that their user name is changed for all of their discussion, comments but if quoted then that is not changed. And of course clicking on the J2035 in the below screen shot yielded the User Not Found. So you don't know who was quoted since that comment is now under Project Numismatics (can go find it in the discussion and determine it that way

I wished I could change my handle as when I started here I never intended to stay. 10 yrs later here I am. I’m PillarsandPortraits on Instagram and find that more suited now as a handle.

I think VAULTBOX would be a great name for 2-3 posters here.
I can think of a great name for you😉
I wonder why people have such a hard time simply not clicking on a thread they don't like. I guess if we're not having fun wrong, we're chatting about the wrong things.
I will not change my user name unless some crazy unimaginable situation develops. Started with this one...like it.... was even used at work for many decades... So RickO it is, RickO it will remain.
Cheers, RickO
I don't think you've offended anyone under your old handle so you might as well go for it. Better decide soon as I might start grabbing popular unused names so I can auction them off to the highest bidder.
Or, you could change it to "PIllarsandPortraits, the member formerly known as Boosibri". (Is there a limit on the length?).
I have this username in quite a few other places, so not changing.
I predict April 1st could be a fool's paradise around here!

But it's all lower case "ricko"! Perhaps you do need to change after all to include capitalization?
"Got a flaming heart, can't get my fill"
@Catbert... Good observation, you have a keen eye. I started with the lower case as an ID when first I joined... just thought as a newbie, I did not want to make a big splash. I changed to the caps in my signature, since that was fitting, as most signatures start with caps. Your observational powers are astute for coins and other things. Cheers, RickO
