I think the thing that draws me and maybe others to the 64 is it feels like it has more depths with the slight coloration where the 65 looks more flat with the consistent coloring.
The 1886 Indian Cent is a tough coin to find nice. Both varieties are hard to find. I learned that when I was in high school and couldn’t find one better than VG, which today’s Fine.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I agree and that is why I am keeping both. The luster on the 65 booms more than the pictures show. The color on the 64 is better than the pictures show. If I ever decide to become a dealer I will have some great material to start with. For now I will just continue to acquire nice coins.

Keep ‘em both!

I don't know that 1886 looks pretty good .
I prefer the 64 but the 65 is nice too.

Yes, my collection has many dupes of the same coin when they have the eye appeal of the IC's you show. Keep 'em!
Nothing wrong with duplicates when they are that nice!

No, send one to me. I'm not picky, either one will do. 🤣 👍🏻

You know what they say - “Two (Indian) heads (of the same date) are better than one.”
Well, it’s something like that. 😉

Keep them both but now you need two Type 2's, or do you have a Type 2 too?
Regretfully I sold my Type 2 a while ago. I wish I would of hung on to it. Made good dough on it but now I want it back!

@MWallace- I seem to have heard a very similar story recently.

The MS 65 has more eye appeal and a better strike than the MS 64. Like them both.

I really like the 64 (and the money I would save by not buying a 65).
I'd keep the 64 and put the 65 toward a Type 2.

@ironmanl63 ... Keeping both of those IHC's is a great decision. Coins that nice are special indeed. Thanks for sharing the pictures. Cheers, RickO
