Thoughts on this 1831 CB

What would grade? Was thinking of making the purchase.
Collect raw morgans, walkers, mercs, SLQ, barber q. Looking at getting into earlier date coins pre 1900s.

The coin looks like a (low end) AU details, cleaned example to me. If the “CB” in your thread title is for “Capped Bust”, I feel that I should inform you that there’s more than one “CB” series.😉

I agree with @MFeld ... AU details, cleaned. I would pass on that one.... Cheers, RickO

Looks like a nice pocket piece to me wear it down to a more honest coin over time and have a cool old dated coin to show people.
Cleaned ... pass.
I agree with cleaned; however, the "glare" from the photograph(s) are throwing me off.
Low AU, certainly. Cleaned, likely. An in-hand view would resolve any question. I'm always suspicious of higher grade raw coins.
Lance.
Those are some bright photos. I turned down the exposure and a touch of contrast added.

Indeed looks cleaned/processed. I’d pass, too.

Any other pics available? That coin appears cleaned from those images.
Playing with the photos isn't going to make the coin any better. Still an AU Details coin.

No one said playing with the photos was going to make it better. But tmcmiller said:

So I turned the exposure down to get rid of the 'glare' for them. Nothing more.

Dipped white at a minimum. So many Bust halves are played with. Pass.

The coin looks whizzed to me.

So many appropriate answers above. Pass.
lilolme, thank you for taking the exposure down. Now, I can take off my sunglasses!
Not a spot of dirt, grime, or toning. Cleaned for sure.
I like "original" as much as the next guy. But dipping is not necessarily fatal.
This is not my coin (which is why I removed its cert#).
Lance.
All depends on the price.
I don’t have as big a problem with dipped silver as some people. Do I prefer nicely toned original surface coins? Yes, but I won’t reject a dipped coin out of hand.
