A step down from last night, but still a few nicely centered cards and HOFs. Was hoping for a surprise Marino or Elway rookie, but no luck. A decent, but flawed, Dickerson rookie was the best of the night.
What rights did Topps have that allowed them to use player images and team names (and team logos on the cards in 1982) but no team logos on helmets or uniforms? I mean there are an awful lot of pictures above of guys sitting on the sidelines.

Topps only had an agreement with the National Football League Players Association for the use of player's names and likeness during the 70s up until 1981, and had lost the NFL rights to the logos during that time to Fleer, which is why the helmets were airbrushed and not many players shown in game action. Starting in 1982, Topps once again acquired agreements with both the NFLPA and NFL for the use of logos.
Prior to the 1982 agreement, Fleer had exclusive rights to the use of the NFL team logos, but not an agreement with the NFLPA, which is why you will not see an individual player noted on any of the Fleer cards, and no player names on the jerseys visible in the photos on the Fleer football cards of the era.
(1) I love the 78's, and I think they are underrated in terms of finding them in high grade. Even when you've convinced yourself a 78 is centered, you end up second guessing it.
(2) If I'm going to war, Chester Marcol is on my short list of guys I'm bringing with me.
Great stuff Scott. Very awesome tradition. Just went thru whole thread. Love to see all of these designs that are unfamiliar to this baseball guy. So many of these players that I grew up watching tho. And my first ever football anything was a #33 jersey to match the one my older cousin had on for games. (Thanks mom for delivering yet again)
John
Conundrum - Loving my unopened baseball card collection....but really like ripping too
Well the mixed bags continue, lots of OC cards and only a few HOFs.
The wax pack had gum in the middle, which meant 3 damaged cards!
The cello was extremely tight, so cards near the top & bottom had corner damage and the gum in the middle took another two!
The rack yielded the only HOFs of the night, highlighted by Dan Fouts & Larry Little

I would add Jack Tatum to that short list. He looks mean as Hell in his picture.
Successful coin BST transactions with Gerard and segoja.
Successful card BST transactions with cbcnow, brogurt, gstarling, Bravesfan 007, and rajah 424.
The 77 & 78 football are my all time favorite football sets but it’s not because the photography is great. It’s because the photography is so weird. Just love them.
The centering is always so bad on the 78s and it drives me crazy.

hey FirstBeard,
crispy Rice...That's Awesome...
Day 4 - 1984 and 1983 runs
A step down from last night, but still a few nicely centered cards and HOFs. Was hoping for a surprise Marino or Elway rookie, but no luck. A decent, but flawed, Dickerson rookie was the best of the night.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
I have really enjoyed this thread over the years!!
thank you for sharing
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
Day 5 - 1982 and 1981 runs
A mixed bag of results tonight. No big surprises either, an OC Monk RC was about it. Not many of the big HOFs of the early 80s where to be found!
The '82 rack yielded a lot of well centered cards, but cells 2 & 3 were almost identical!
The '81 Payton on top of the cello turned out to be really nice.
1982 - Wax (All cards)
1982 - Cello (Top 8 cards) - This was a pretty bad pack!
1982 - Rack (Top 28 cards)
1982 Insert cards
1981 - Wax (All cards)
1981 - Cello (Top 15 cards)
1981 - Rack (Top 21 cards)
I like the 82's...
Klecko, Ham, Hannah… plenty to look at!!!!
And a sweet Sweetness!
Thanks for sharing!!
Live long, and prosper.
Day 6 - 1980 and 1979 runs
Other than the Campbell RC (that was showing on the back of the rack pack) this was another mixed bag of results. Even less HOFs than yesterday!
We've reached the point where I'll be scanning all cards from this point forward.
1980 - Wax
1980 - Cello
1980 - Rack
1979 - Wax
1979 - Cello
1979 - Rack
love those 79's...
Oh yeah!!!
As a Patriots fan in the 70’s….Did I really need to see all those Steeler players again???
I won’t be able to sleep tonight just thinking about them all….
Thanks a lot!!!!! (you know… for sharing them!!)
Live long, and prosper.

As a native San Diegan, that 1979 John Jefferson always brings back fond memories.
That 79 Dave Casper is sweet.
Nice Bahr Brothers, I still need to upgrade that one!

stupid print dots
Wow many of those ‘79s came out beautifully centered. Congrats!
Day 7 - 1978 run
The mix bag of results continues with these packs. The highlight (excepted) was a Dorsett RC. It's a beautiful card but off centered
1978 - Wax
1978 - Cello
1978 - Rack
Awesome 78's...
Fabulous!!!!
Live long, and prosper.
Scott- I see multiples in the rack pack- were they in same cell? Too bad it wasn't a Dorsett!
PC Walter Payton - Bear Down!
Two things . . .
(1) I love the 78's, and I think they are underrated in terms of finding them in high grade. Even when you've convinced yourself a 78 is centered, you end up second guessing it.

Not the same cell, it was odd to have a four card sequence appear in 2 different cells.
Day 8 - 1977 run
Well the mixed bags continue, lots of OC cards and only a few HOFs.
The wax pack had gum in the middle, which meant 3 damaged cards!
The cello was extremely tight, so cards near the top & bottom had corner damage and the gum in the middle took another two!

Wax
Cello
Rack 1 (Some interesting printing issue here)
Rack 2 (A double card here, back2back)
Rack 3
sometimes you'll get very bad packs and sometimes you'll get very good packs...still 77's are pretty cool looking cards...
Loving the sweet wood-paneled station wagon behind Fouts that is parked right on the field…Classic 1970s!
Plunkett and Csonka!!!
Made my day!!!
Live long, and prosper.
My man Chester Marcol makes another appearance. And John Leypoldt kicking the ball straight on like God intended! Great memories.
That 78 Dorsett was very clean minus the centering. Just a fantastic raw copy.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
is it amazing to anyone else how old many of these players look so old even though they are in their 20s-30s?
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
Brings back memories of my childhood as we had one for our family car.
1977 chevrolet kingswood station wagon
My cards on COMC
Kinda looks like the Fouts card picture was taken in the the old Cleveland Municipal Stadium...
I would add Jack Tatum to that short list. He looks mean as Hell in his picture.
Successful card BST transactions with cbcnow, brogurt, gstarling, Bravesfan 007, and rajah 424.
I want to see a GEM MINT Jim Ringo!!!
Day 9 - 1976 run
A little better tonight, quite a few HOFs including a rookie! (But NOT Payton)
The wax and cello pack yielded some nice cards.
The rack was a case of the good, the bad and the ugly.
Wax
Cello
Rack 1 (Rookie White)
Rack 2 (the Tilted cell)
Rack 3 (the Off Center cell)
The 77 & 78 football are my all time favorite football sets but it’s not because the photography is great. It’s because the photography is so weird. Just love them.
The centering is always so bad on the 78s and it drives me crazy.
Nice 76's...
Fabulous…. Thanks for sharing!!!!
Live long, and prosper.
The Stabler card is classic. And you know Yepremian must have been popular with the ladies .
That Randy White rookie has my name written all over it.
He was 32 in that picture.
The Manning looks sharp. Nice cards.
Man, I love that Stabler. That and the 77 are my two favorites of all time. Love ‘em.
Day 10 - 1975 run
Back to a mixed bag of results. Few HOFs and a lot of OC cards...
Wax
Cello
Rack 1
Rack 2
Rack 3
We’re in the home stretch!!!!
Good luck!!!!
And Happy Holidays!!!!!
Live long, and prosper.
If you think surviving COVID as a small business was tough, try owning a barber shop in the mid 70s! Great stuff, love the 75 topps.
Bubba and the scratcher look nice.
Bosox1976
I like those 75's...
