What is your opinion of this 1794 Large Cent

EddiEddi Posts: 509 ✭✭✭✭✭

This is one of the better 1794 LC's in my small collection. It is an Sheldon-28, Rarity 2, with generally nice surfaces. The reverse has a few issues, as can be seen.

Overall a pleasing coin, but I would like to hear your opinions and comments, including how would you grade it.

Thanks!

I think its a great coin! Maybe a VF-30 or a bit lower

I think that's a great looking coin ... pleasing color and surfaces (minor issues aside).

I'm not sure how it would grade, but I would call it Choice VF and describe the marks on the reverse somehow.

I saw this coin earlier today in a galaxy far far away...

I'll comment on here and say VF-35, not a huge fan of the color as it looks cleaned and recolored or something alike. Low VF by EAC standards. I like the smooth obverse surfaces.

I like it and think it would straight grade ~VF 25 or so.

Looks way better than mine (my first and only 17XX coin at this point).
I’m not an expert (or well versed) but it looks nice to me.

1794 cents like that have always been hard to find. Most of them have far more wear, and the reverse lettering is usually incomplete. A piece like that would fit very well in a date set or a die variety collection. I like it!

My grade is VF-30. You might be surprised at what a TPG would say. It could be (inaccurately) higher.

I owned this one at one time, which is something similar.

Looks to be VF30 to me.... I am not an expert on old copper, and I really like copper with a date starting with 17... So could be a 25 or maybe a 35.... Nice coin for sure. Cheers, RickO
