Early Gold - 1807 $2.5 NEWP

I have a pretty exciting coin to share today.
I've looked at and considered draped bust quarter eagles in the past but never really had the $$ prioritized for it, nor found any coin that spoke to me.
So I wasn't really looking for an early $2.5, but when a special opportunity comes up sometimes you have to change your plans. This coin definitely speaks!
1807 Draped Bust $2.5, PCGS AU50 in OGH with Gold CAC sticker.
This coin, in my humble opinion, looks phenomenal. It's fully struck, with crisp detail showing all of the design elements. Surfaces have beautiful deep and even color along with fantastic beaming luster. It really jumps out at you, and with a great old holder and gold sticker to boot. I couldn't imagine a better type coin in AU. A huge thank you to John at Coin Rarities Online for getting this one in my hands.
My long-term goal is to put together a complete US gold type set. As complete as my budget allows, anyway. This newp represents a great step forward on a tough early type. I think I can be pretty confident in saying that it's a keeper.

Holy Cow!
I would be sharing that coin, too, if I were fortunate enough to have it in my collection. That is a gorgeous coin with surfaces that are far, far nicer and more original than the vast majority of extant pieces. Well done!

For anyone on instagram I posted a short video showing the in-hand view. I don't think there is a way to post videos on the forum? Here is the link.

That is a really nice gold coin.... and -IMO- well deserving of the gold CAC.... Cheers, RickO

What a beautiful coin along with a gorgeous design. I would like to see a modern commemorative rendition of it.
Congratulations on acquiring it.

Kennedys are my quest...
BTW - it is hard to see any rub on the coin. Perhaps maybe a touch on the reverse but hard to tell if it is strike softness.
Would be interesting to hear what people think the grade would be if resubmitted. I would never do that but it's interesting to speculate. To me it looks like a 58 perhaps 61.
Two questions, how much did that amazing coin cost? And is that a Russian blue?
Mine is attached below as the obligatory tax

Great coin! If I had had that opportunity, I might have jumped on it too.
I bought an 1804 quarter eagle for the type many years ago. It too is a green label AU-50, but it has adjustment marks as many of the 1804 $2.50 coins often seem to have.
Re: cost - I think the coin compares very favorably with other type examples in AU58, and the price reflected the obvious condition and eye appeal.
The cat's name is Winnie. She was adopted from a shelter. She has some faint stripes, probably a tabby mix. She is a handful.

Love the color most of all, and the condition.

Our cats are adopted/rescue also. That’s an amazing looking early quarter eagle. Love it.
Phenomenal coin! An impressive addition to the set as well.

I love the look of the coin and the cat. And you purchased the coin from a great dealer who I have dealt with plenty in the past.
Chance favors the prepared mind.
With a gold sticker on a 50 JA probably thinks at a minimum it’s a 58.
