"EVERYBODY LOVE EVERYBODY IT SAYS IT RIGHT THERE ON THE WALL" - JACKIE MOON
Getting harder and harder to find any deals on records. Asking prices are starting to get stupid crazy and auction endings are all over the place but found a listing for cheap with pics and description as follows
Elvis, Cream, Loudin Wainright the third, and many surprise albums
Condition is Used
Media Mail Shipping
There were initially 8 or 9 pictures showing 3 albums by the artists listed and a picture of a CCR album with no cover. I put the listing on my watch list, forgot about it until an email saying X% off so went back and looked again and more items showing (CCR removed). Bought it and 4 days from Texas to the backwoods of Maine.
I actually wanted the Elvis (it is the common as dirt blue vinyl release) as for whatever reason I never picked this up prior in all the years I've collected records. I remember people years ago thinking they had something special because of the blue color but think that was just a marketing gimmick that ties into the album name. Now if you have the black colored vinyl, you got something good.
As mentioned pictures were shown in the listing.
They looked really nice but that angle is very deceiving when taking pictures of records. Here is a picture I took of the Cream album in bright light doing the same angle (head on).
Looks amazing (the record, NOT my reflection).
But I know this going in so don't expect any record I buy from any seller that uses the head on angle to arrive looking perfect.
Pretty much just light scuffs/light scratches and after cleaning crude stuck in the grooves of which I think an Ultrasonic cleaning would remove that but with that said it plays very nicely. Side 1 just a bit of pops/clicks but not overpowering. Side 2 appears to have been played more and has a bit more noise. I ripped it to digital, did a slight noise reduction (you take a sample of noise in quiet sections and apply to the whole file) and de-clicked where needed and it sounds really nice to my old ears. Yes, I could just buy a cd or stream it but I enjoy collecting what I collect. It would be like telling someone to download a picture of a 1952 Topps Mantle as it's cheaper and you could have a pristine image of one. We all collect what we can afford and what we enjoy.
Now for my technical crapola with grading (for anyone that finds any of this interesting)
The Fabulous Thunderbirds – Tuff Enuff (VG+. Nice clean copy)
Loudon Wainwright III – Album III (Strong VG Pitman Pressing. Minimal issues with light pops/clicks here and there)
Cream - Best Of Cream (VG Monarch Pressing. Light scuffs/scratches. Some light pops and clicks but not overpowering)
Elvis - Moody Blue (Side 1 VG+ Side 2 Strong VG pops/clicks. This side clearly played much more than side 1)
Various - Hullabaloo With The Stars Vol 2 (VG Grade only because of tiny chip on edge otherwise VG+/clean. Mono version not listed on Discogs)
Engelbert Humperdinck - A Man Without Love (VG+ Not listed on Discogs Matrix/Runout Side 1: S T (etched) O ZAL8386-9 (stamped) 1 (etched) Bell Sound (stamped) LPS-71022- (lightly etched) 3 (lightly etched backwards)
Matrix/Runout (Side 2: T (etched) dimple (light mark probably supposed to be an O) ZAL 8387-9 (stamped) 1 (etched) Bell Sound (stamped) PAS-71022- (lightly etched) V (upside down stamped)(AMAZING sound quality)
Charlie Rich - Greatest Hits (STRONG VG. Light pops/clicks. Slight warp only visible on side 1)
Tom Jones - Live In Las Vegas (G+ Scuffs/scratches produces a bit of crackle throughout mostly noticeable in quiet sections. Pitman pressing not listed on Discogs)
This one was hidden inside the Tom Jones album. Mariachi Internacional – Mariachi Internacional (VG+ No cover, great sound 1970 Re-issue Mexico).
I didn't think I knew anything by Loudon Wainwright but Dead Skunk used to get played A LOT on the radio years ago and I remember that like it was yesterday.
I love compilations and Hullabaloo didn't fail me. Few tracks I had heard and few I hadn't ever heard. Looks like it was either rarely or never played. Wyncote releases can be very hit and miss. This one shows manufacturing defects of dimpling in many spots but doesn't appear to effect the playback. The Impressions With Jerry Butler - Pretty Baby on this sounds like the source was either a 78 or an acetate.
Don’t bug my much on eBay especially higher priced items. Got lucky winning this via auction. Came via certification service via PSA. Packaging was quite nice
Second box pickup in the last month or so, and added the 53 display box to go with a couple of 53 Topps singles in my collection. The 56 box I picked up in September, and both are very clean with no stray markings or writing on the boxes.

hey KendallCat,
Cool cards...but love those boxes you have...Oh Yeah...
There has been a massive uptick in pricing in the past few months which makes no sense. Items that were in people's dollar or less bins are now getting $10 and up. Kudos to the sellers being able to move stuff that would never sell for YEARS but can't figure out who actually is paying these prices for very common items. In my 50+ years I have never heard someone say oh man, I just picked up an Engelbert Humperdinck album that I've always wanted.
I'll never knock anyone for what they listen to, but I don't get the prices at all.

5x All-Star, 9x Gold Glove, 2x Silver Slugger, Twins HOF, 2,452 Hits, 498 doubles, 353 HR, quite the underrated career! Added to my 75-95 rookie collection!
I'm missing the "underrated" in Hunter's career. Taking four near contemporaries in Center Field who are closest to Hunter in JAWS, Devon White, Ellis Burks, Willie Wilson, and Mike Cameron, Hunter is the only one who has a third shot at the BBWAA ballot. White and Cameron didn't even get a single vote. If White and Wilson are too early to compare, replace them with Steve Finley and Bernie Williams and the same holds, though Williams was clearly better. In any event, Hunter wasn't demonstrably more hall-worthy than the rest of either group of five.
Similarly, his five closest comps via Similarity Scores are Chili Davis, Dave Parker, Carlos Lee, Dwight Evans, and Luis Gonzalez. They had 1, 15, 1, 3, and 1 shots at the Hall, respectively. I'm mystified at the love for Parker, but regardless, as Hunter gets his third shot this winter, he doesn't look underrated here.
Finally, he has 29 points on the "Gray Ink" list compared to 144 for the average HoFer. He has 58 points on the Hall of Fame Monitor and 34 on the Hall of Fame Standards. Compare him to other players with less than 10% of the vote in the past two years we have the likes of Aramis Ramirez (85 and 39), Bobby Abreu (95 and 54), Jimmy Rollins (121 and 42), Ryan Howard (99 and 25), Mark Teixeira (109 and 33), and A.J. Pierzynski (108 and 30).
In none of those three groups do I see a reason that Hunter stands out as clearly superior, and yet Parker is the only one who appears to be "rated" higher. I just don't see "underrated".
By the way, a 121 OPS+ for a defensively league average Right Fielder isn't special. Dave Parker should never have gotten a second chance on the ballot, let alone a fifteenth.

As a Twins fan, I saw Hunter's career with Minnesota. Had his hitting been a little better, I would say he was a candidate for the HOF. Tremendous defensive player!
He was often horrible at the plate for long stretches at a time, then he would get hot. At the end of the year, he ended up with decent numbers, but even though I was happy to see him in Center Field, I never felt he was a HOFer.
Very nice complimentary player!
Under rated? Probably by the casual fan, but so are a lot of solid players.

And the Back To the Future cars were a bonus. Very nicely detailed for such tiny cars.
My first super sized slab. It doesn't really fit my collection so I'm not sure how long I'll keep it, but I think Brooks Robinson's book, Third Base is My Home was one of the first books I ever checked out from the library.
