Just another CBH that followed me home from the ANA

As some of you have undoubtedly heard, one of the things more than a few of us took home from the ANA this year was the COVID virus. I know at least for the BHNC we had a wonderful Tuesday “Corn Roast” dinner, but it may have been a “spreader” event for the group.

Within 24 hours of arriving home Friday night I became very sick, and by Monday morning was somewhat worried. Fortunately, I recovered (Paxlovid certainly helped, I believe), and as of Wednesday this week I had my energy back, and am kind of back in my groove. It was a long 10 days in between.

A few members didn’t attend as they got sick before the event, and about a dozen reported sick after. I am hopeful everyone who caught it has been recovering and doesn’t have any long-term complications.

Anyway, in addition to that nuisance, I brought home some really nice coins … seven overall, and four from Sheridan Downey’s Mail Bid #54. The neat thing about winning anything from Sheridan Downey’s auction is the images provided by @lkeigwin (LanceView’s as some of us affectionately refer to them) are excellent. I have posted three of the four here, and it’s nice to have those wonderful images to view and share.

FWIW Lance also got the virus and is still struggling with a rebound infection, along with his burnt fingers (see my original ANA show report from before I got sick). So, say an extra prayer for our Brother. I heard from him this morning and I think things are trending up.

Okay, back to the NEWP.

One of the coins I brought home WASN’T from Sheridan’s MB Sale (although I crushed my budget there), but rather from Dave Kahn’s table. Seeing Dave and Melissa is always a treat, and I enjoyed looking through all of their inventory and chatting with them about life and coins. This one showed up on Friday, and I had to find some intestinal fortitude to peel off enough cash to take her home before I left. It was a NEWP for them too, so it didn't have any of their wonderful images.

Of course, my pictures are not quite the same quality of Lance’s (or Dave and Melissa's for that matter), but here she is, an 1820 O-106 with a nice look and feel (IMO)

“We are only their care-takers,” he posed, “if we take good care of them, then centuries from now they may still be here … ”
