MY two biggest personal dislikes in the hobby...

jkrkjkrk Posts: 967 ✭✭✭✭✭

1)When a buyer of a coin tells me how much over some guide price, he will pay.

2)When a seller of a coin tells me how much below some guide price he will sell the coin for.

After all these years I finally understand that it's all good and I'm the problem.

    1. Too many coins I want and not enough money.
    2. Inflation eroding my buying power further.

No, they are never “useful”, not even “temporarily”. Why deposit a ticking PVC time bomb on a coin that turns in the holder some day?

And yeah, nobody is forcing me to use DDT on my tomatoes either, but it is still banned.

    2. Taco Bell toned gutter metal (silver). RGDS!

No, they are never “useful”, not even “temporarily”.

That is incorrect, but whatever. If you can't see a use for them, then don't.

DDT is still used outside of the US.

I use them to hold coins in capsules for inventory and shipping. Mylar well break. Coin never touches the soft flip and it is only for temporary storage.

    The worst:

    1) Highly deceptive counterfeits
    2) Sellers who knowingly sell counterfeits not described as such

I avoid all the things I dislike. When there is a coin I must have and the price is reasonable, I buy it. I really like that.

    in no particular order...
    1) overpriced modern coins
    2) people that will hem and haw about how your coin is AU and has so many flaws, but then market it as "Gem BU"
    3) peope that negotiate every penny out of you, but when you try to buy from them there is never any room and you're insulting them by even asking
    4) people expressing interest, discussing a purchase, and then saying they don't have the money lol
5)-50) do not recall right now

    1. Unquestionably PVC flips. They have been the biggest headache for me in my collecting journey.

    2. Finding a coin I really like only to realize its over graded.

For me it's always been the dealer who's your best friend in a soft market, then can't remember your name in a hot market.

Finding a coin I really like only to realize its over graded.

    Here's a variation on that.

Finding a coin I really like only to find that a dealer has it who constantly over charges for what he has. They are out there. I don't know how they survive.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Dealers/collectors who are full of themselves and are condescending. A stuffed shirt that thinks their 💩don’t stink and act as if they are more important than what they really are. These tend to be the ones that forget where they came from. Unless they were born with a silver spoon in their mouth.

The cable shopping network can be entertaining at times. One night I almost fell out of my chair laughing when one of the "experts," who is more like a carnival barker, told "the marks" that Platinum plated State Quarters were "a great investment."

Dealer who have to pull out and check the CDN for a coin in a box of 2x2 circulated coins. Mark or code the coin holder so don,t have to bother asking about the price

    1) Blast white slabbed F to XF silver coins, blecch!
    2) Ebay sellers that juice their images by turning up the juice knobs to 11.

Not just eBay sellers. PCGS Trueview does this as well.
