PCGS conservation question and a rare bust half

Pardon my ignorance just this once. I don’t have any experience with PCGS conservation service. I recently won this unattributed bust half on eBay.

The reverse is great. The obverse OTOH, has a metallic silver line across it. It doesn’t look like it’s damaged the coin in any way but I’m not sure what it is. Without this line it would grade a nice F.

Is this a good candidate to get a facelift?

I don't think that's a candidate, as I would be afraid they might ruin her skin.

That's not a scrape? Is it something ON the coin?

Maybe time for an Acetone swish and soak??

EDIT to ADD: Maybe I wasn't seeing what you were asking. Are you talking about the band of discoloration across the obverse of the coin?

That coin does not look like a restoration candidate to me.
I don't see a metallic line across it. I do see a couple relatively short (compared to a line across) lines that look like contact marks.
Can go to this page for some information on restoration. The Do's and Don't near the bottom of the page has some information on what might be conserved.

I’ll try to take better pics in the AM.

The line from star 3 to 8 looks like something silver was spilled on it or laid across it. There is no damage from whatever it is That I can see under a 10x loupe.

I also thought about acetone. I guess maybe I should give that a whirl first?

I would not send it for conservation.

    Tough die marriage! Congrats.

I love the reverse. The obverse...meh.

I wouldn't have it conserved. It wouldn't help. And nothing worse than a dipped, well circulated coin.

But I would have it graded and attributed.

edit to add: Pretty sure OP is talking about this.

Kind of interesting, on my screen I can barely see anything. From star 3 to the face I can see a lighter area than either side in the field but nothing I would identify as silver. The face looks okay. The hat is actually a little darker in that area and not lighter / silver.

However, one thing to think about is, if that comes off, then what do you have?

Also the acetone could remove grit / grime / film... on the coin for better or worse. I think I am seeing some in protected areas (particularly on the reverse).

I hate suggesting anything but if doing acetone, then could start with some on a Qtip and testing it out directly on the area. But back to what do you have if...

I don’t see any fixing that, and from the pics it doesn’t bother me much. Would rather that VS a blatantly over processed coin which is what you’d likely be left with if it were removed

Great looking coin. Don't screw with it. If you do, you'll regret it.

    Just leave it as is.

If the coin bothers you now, you will hate it if you try to conserve it.

    Thanks for the advice everyone.

I would leave it as is.... That discoloration appears to be from something that was in contact for a while... almost like a rubber band (not saying it was that). You may not like what removal may show... the result could be even more obvious. Cheers, RickO
