I’m going to be a contrarian. I agree the surfaces look gem, but the coin looks like it has been dipped a few too many times and retoned. The obverse looks dull. I’ll wager low grade MS netgraded for the luster. I’ll call it a 62 maybe 63 on a good day.
If it has full cartwheel luster and doesn’t look lifeless in hand. I have no problems with a gem grade.
I'll go MS64, looks just ok...Something not quite right with the obverse luster....Hard to determine through the photo. These coins are all about original luster. Perhaps dipped and retoned at some point. hard to say.
I see this thread as an example of the pitfalls in grading a coin from the image. And in making that observation, I am not critical of the photo- the PCGS photography team is terrific. I see a difference in the obverse and reverse surfaces... could be the lighting... but that differences raises the possibility it just may have received an altered surfaces designation with a no grade. I would like to be wrong but I would rather see it in hand before offering an opinion at a lofty grade which the coin may very well deserve- I just feel uncomfortable going there.

Agree with the above. I need to see the coin re its eye appeal. Unc. Barber Halves are the ugliest group of uncirculated coins I've ever seen. The only very minor flaw I see with this is a tic or lint mark, if you spend a lot of time looking at it you will see it, between the lip and star 9.
This is a very clean coin. It doesn't have the typical spotchy toilet bowl toning you often find on unc. Barber Halves. Dipped and retoned unc. coins I have seen don't have as subtle toning as this one.
If you're looking for a nice type coin, and the price is affordable to you, I'd consider this one.

I love the imagery. Thank you for reminding me why I never pursued a date and mintmark set of these.
Oh yeah, it was the Trueview picture that didn't show all the problems............
And CAC just had an extra sticker laying around so they put it on this one
That Trueview reminds me of a former girlfriend's glamor shot she had taken. Not that it didn't resemble her a little bit, but my gosh it really accentuated the positive and a couple dings and scratches didn't show as much (well let's just leave it at that).

Don't know much about grading these, but it sure is sweet looking!

How is the luster in hand? The True View makes the luster look muted.
My guess is 66, at a minimum.

Hard to to be absolute from a pic, but, judging from strike and surfaces, I would venture to say 67 !
Based on the pic, it does appear dipped and retoned , Im guessing 64 if graded recently, 63 before the advent of the tab slab

Not a dog, by any means. But it looks like a 64, as opposed to a coin that would easily grade higher.

I also see some indications of luster not evident in the True View. The obverse in the True View looks stripped.
