EF-40, but since it’s a CC coin, it probably gets a bump to EF-45 on the holder.

I'm in the 45 camp. Nice and original looking.

Wholesome looking example! EF40, with possibly the CC / originality bump to 45

I'm in the 40 camp. I think it has enough meat for a 45 but the overall coin is just not smooth enough IMHO.
XF 40 downgraded from 45 for the reverse gouge.
XF45 for me.

XF40... Though 45 will not surprise me. Cheers, RickO

45 because NGC graded it…looks like a PCGS 40
I say 45, sweet half dollar, I like the look of it.
XF40. A nice and rare coin.

XF45. Nice looking coin.
Not very smooth surfaces but maybe that was a mint-based. Technically EF45 imo.
One of the dates in the series that convinced me to stop collecting them….
I'm with the xf40 crowd, 45 technically but net graded to 40 for the reverse scratch.

11.5$ Southern Dollars, The little “Big Easy” set
I would rather own a coin such as this with the reverse distraction- lets call that for what it is- instead of some enhanced POS that has been stripped. I like the first image much more than the second. While I may have no problem with this in the 40-45 range, I can hear the whining as to the reverse gouge. Nice coin for the date regardless of the net outcome of opinions.

EF40. Nice coin!

A bargain compared to the S
11.5$ Southern Dollars, The little “Big Easy” set
That one too, along with quite a few others! It is a formidable series, after you get past the first 40 or so “easy” ones.
Many thanks for all of your opinions.
This coin was graded XF45 by NGC.
I have no opinion on whether it was over or undergraded - what I wanted was your expert opinions, which I got.
As for the small scratch or gouge - it is much less prominent when you hold the slab in-hand.
I bought this coin at an European auction some years ago where i was able to buy it, along with an 1871 CC, for a very reasonable price. I am very happy with this purchase.
Once again, many thanks for your comments.
