My coworker brought in a large cent for me to check out!

I have never seen a coin like this in person, so it was really special to hold it in my hands! Now I’m fighting the urge to collect large cents

Awesome coin!
My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Beautiful piece of copper. I would be excited to hold one of those too, especially in that condition.
He just won that at an HA auction and paid 24K. Great coin.
My Early Large Cents
Yikes, I'd be almost afraid to hold it....

Great coin!

Not the typical workplace show and tell
By itself that coin is a large cent collection
Fantastic!

Well if what he paid for it doesn't intimidate you, go for it!
Or adjust your expectations down to the dreck the rest of us early copper guys have to settle for:
Yikes! My coworkers only bring in pictures of their pets!
Sweet!
Wow! That's quite the conversation piece! I'll go back to dreck searching...

Oh I am definitely one of the regular guys collecting dreck! But he loves to talk shop so it’s a lot of fun to visit him every once in a while when he has something to show me. We actually started talking over state quarters, then I think I surprised him by rattling off mintage numbers for all the proof-only trade dollars. It’s been a great friendship ever since!

Congrats to the owner of the beyond fantast 93 Copper, but Greg, I must admit that is a neat coin. Any time a U.S. copper of the late 1700's has date and Liberty identifiable, I'm excited. Thanks for sharing, both coins.

That’s a beast!
The last co worker to show me a coin, showed me a common date buff nickel that was heavily worn and insisted it was worth thousands of dollars. My eyes would pop out of my head If someone brought that 1793 cent into my office!
Holy Crud!

well you've let us know where you work. if people are idly bring in lovely large cents like that, you obvious work at berkshire hathaway!
Based on the title, I opened this thread expecting to see a well worn and probably abused braided hair cent...wow!
That coin is one to see in person before bidding. I have seen photos of it ranging from beautiful to unattractive.
OH MY!
I wasn’t expecting THAT!
What a BEAUTIFUL BEAST indeed!
Wow! Super cool!

Same coin:

Great Coin!
I've noticed several poor photos from heritage over the years. Tough on the sellers.

I’ll respect his privacy but he’s in a really good position, I am the equivalent of a mail clerk 😀
Here’s two more coins he brought in last year..
What a marvelous old copper cent.... Must have been well cared for during it's almost two hundred and thirty year life.... A real treasure. Cheers, RickO
Great Coin!
Your co-worker has a great eye for beauty.
Thanks to both of you for sharing.

Kennedys are my quest...
That’s what we both really wondered about. Was it really well taken care of, or did it fall out of a old desk drawer after 160 year hibernation? 🤔
@kiyote ... There have been stories like that. Antique desks can hold secrets. I had a bedroom bureau when I was a kid, and found a 'space' in the frame that was not visible or obvious unless one knew where it was. I hid several things there when growing up.... No idea what happened to that piece of furniture. I am sure it had 'something' stashed away that I have long forgotten about. Cheers, RickO
