Endurance, by Alfred Lansing. The story of Shackleton's attempt in 1916 to reach the south pole. DO NOT WATCH THE DOCUMENTARY ON YOUTUBE. Read the book. $3-5 on ebay --used. It is on Kindle, free. Book is better.
I actually watched a documentary years ago called "Chasing Shackleton" about six guys who attempted to put themselves through the hell that Shackleton and his men went through when they were stranded on Elephant Island.

DoubleD, you could go back and try to find the last movie thread, don't recall the title but it was several
months ago and you mentioned the movie 'moonfall' which I believe is out now but isn't doing very well
at the box office. That's one I want to see.
I think I mentioned in that thread the movie with Chris Pine and Jeff Bridges. Pine and his brother rob
banks and Bridges and his partner are TX rangers hot on their trail. Really good movie.

Yes, I want to see Moonfall, I'm a sucker for end of the world movies. From the look of the poster, they're going to try to say aliens had something to do with the moon.

I'm so jealous you have more left to watch then me. It only gets better

It has been great so far, lots of stuff going on!
You are going to love 1883 the Yellowstone Prequel. Somewhat raw at times. Sam Sheppard is pretty pretty pretty good. Faith Hill and Tim McGraw do a nice job as well. She's a good actor
m
I was not aware that the two were connected.
Yep. Another Taylor Sheridan project. It's the journey of the Dutton family from Tennesee to Texas to Montana. We are caught up and they are still in Texas. We love it
m
Ahh ok so the show is about the pre Yellowstone days? I’m looking forward to the rest of this series, we try to get in 4-6 episodes a week. Ozark is next on our list but we might need to put that on ice and do 1883
Yes the journey begins in 1883. The OG Duttons

Joaquin Phoenix did an unbelievably good job
I'm looking forward to watching it tomorrow, I'm a little more than halfway through The Lighthouse and it's getting crazier by the minute, those two guys are nuts!

Ok, I have officially finished watching the Lighthouse and Joker. The Lighthouse was absolutely insane, it was hilarious that when they were drunk they were practically best friends, but when they were sober they hated eachothers guts, and the ending with the Light was very strange, I still don't understand what was up with that light. The Joker was a fantastic movie, with a lot of questions about the whole story, was this the story of how the Joker from Batman came to be, or was this just a delusional fantasy from a mentally ill man in an insane asylum. Both great movies and well worth the time.
I haven't watched movies since the drive ins went out of business but some of the ones you guys are suggesting are kind of gross.
I always like westerns and they don't make them anymore.
John Wayne was my favorite.

I know, I'm just saying. But lucky there are soooo many old ones to still watch if you want. I enjoy movies from all eras, but the last fifteen years or so I dislike a lot. As movies supposedly got more realistic, I find them more fake. Too many effects. Too much dialogue redone after filming and overdubbed. Etc.

I hear you. To each is own. I love some of the classics. Citizen Kane and Casablanca I can't get enough of. I wasn't brought up on Westerns nor John Wayne and that genre doesnt resonate with me. I do love Clint Eastwood westerns ( spaghetti and otherwise).
Considering what other forms of entertainment cost going out to the movies is still rather cheap in comparison even at $15 a pop. We get all the movies (Guild) for free so most are watched at home. But my wife still wants date nights so we will go to one's in the theatre that sound and visuals make sense. She's allowed to pick 3 movies for my one. It's the only way I can see Kong vs Godzilla without her complaining. Of course this was all pre pandemic in regards to going to the theater.

I watched a bootleg version of it online. Its definitely one to rewatch in HD though. As for the Aliens I only saw E.T. pop up a couple times when he was dancing with Alf.
Here’s a few that span a wide range of time and genre, in no particular order:
Unforgiven (Eastwood, Hackman, Freeman)
True Romance
Dazed and Confused
The Rock (great movie, there’s a fun theory that this is the last Bond film of Connery’s career)
Hoosiers
The Hustler
On The Waterfront
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Crimson Tide
Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse (animated, spectacular)
Swingers
American Graffiti
Casablanca

I've been watching a lot of movies recently, and "All is Lost" starring Robert Redford was excellent, it is about a man stranded by himself at sea and trying to survive in a hopeless situation.
Based on @doubledragon 's recommendation, I recently watched two movies I had not seen. The 1982 version of The Thing followed by the 2011 "prequel" of the same name.
I had never seen the original , which I know was panned by critics but became a bit of a classic and genre-inspiring movie.
Thanks DD!!
Edited to add: if anyone plans to watch them, watch them in that order. And if you have seen the original, it's worth re-watching before the second.

Another movie I watched recently is "Ad Astra" starring Brad Pitt. He plays a second generation astronaut who learns that his father, who disappeared in space decades earlier while searching for proof of life on other planets, may still be alive out there in space. A descent into madness, a phenomenal movie.
"Underwater" is another great movie I watched recently, it is about a team of deep ocean drillers that are stationed in the Mariana trench, which is the abyss, the deepest part of the ocean on Earth, and they awaken something that doesn't want them down there.
