my new favorite coin......... thanks MrEureka

Andy Lustigs' table is always a favorite stop at any coin show. He handles a wide range of numismatic material...... everything from patterns and cool error coins to world coins. I happened by his table at the FUN show and he showed me a coin that I didn't know I needed but having the coin in hand quickly changed that. I couldn't stop thinking about it for the rest of the show and after I got home I contacted Andy and gave it a new home. Thanks Andy!

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......

1663 - a looooong time ago! I bet that is just way cool to have in hand and to think about its history.

Many eye catching details on that puppy.
A great strike for 1663.
With this being an MS 63 grade, I would like to see what the higher grades have to show.

Spectacular Coin!! I love it.
Congratulations! Regarding "in hand", if you haven't held a gold 8 escudo outside of a holder, I'd highly recommend it (just perhaps not with this high grade example).
There are very few numismatic experiences that can replicate holding an ounce of pirate treasure in your bare hand. I have a worn doubloon on my desk and play with it regularly.
@boiler78 never ceases to amaze with his wonderful collection!
Congrats on the new acquisition

Cobs are awesome! Even better in gold! That one is a beast! It has a very nicely centered Shield, and a clear overdate to boot! Very cool.
Very cool new addition, congrats!

Makes me want one. Do they come in "affordable"?
I’ll co-sign the WOW!! What a beauty 👍
Beautiful! Looking at the label, under Spain I see "Calico-1904 M-- What is that in reference to?
Andy's table routinely has many coins I don't know I need. That said, my wallet often says it doesn't matter how much I need them, I need to wait.
Very cool coin!
Very cool piece for sure!!
Wonderful coin! Come on over to the World forum sometime!

I did an image search on this to uncover some of the cryptic markings, the results came back instantly saying: Cool Coin!
Gorgeous coin @boiler78!
Compared to other Spanish gold from that era I've seen the photos look a bit dark. Do the photos represent what it looks like in hand?
First one I have ever seen and wow glad I didn't hold it in my hand. That is so beautiful it is hard to put words together that describes it.

That is an indescribably beautiful coin!
Very cool! I wonder how big the planchet would have to be to get all the details on the coin?
Sweet old gold!
