Just Won This 1835 Classic Head 1/2¢ PCGS MS64BN CAC

Normally I wait until a coin is in-hand to post a new pickup, but I’m excited enough about this one to share it shortly after the auction closed. It’ll be replacing an 1832 AU58 example in my type set, which I am happy to upgrade. Interestingly, the same coin sold less than three years ago for about half of my winning bid — at the time it did not have the CAC sticker. Guess I’m a sucker

That's a beauty, terrific eye appeal.

I agree with Wow!
Smitten with DBLCs.
At home, so I'm contador1, not Elcontador. The 1835 and 1828 13 Stars are the type coins of the series. They are readily available and strikes are usually hammered. This is the first coin which was minted using the steam press.
It's a nice coin. The hit on the neck doesn't look serious, and the rest of the surfaces look pretty clean. I'm guessing the coin is a bit dark, hence the MS 64 grade. The TPGs may use that as a a grade limitation factor, but it doesn't bother me.
Given their age, relative to other coins of this era, they are not expensive in higher grades. Color demands a premium, as with all early copper.
Really?
Smitten with DBLCs.

Thank you. I figured I did well with this one, but it’s always nice to have it affirmed by a chorus of folks on the boards. As for the 58, it’s likely to disappoint as it’s not even close to the caliber of the new example, even on a relative grade basis. I may put it up on the BST next weekend along with a few other things I’d like to move.
