Passing the time on a snowy day

A friend said he found his grandfather’s silver and wanted me to look at it. Had several original bank rolled 64 UNC kennedys. Looked like they were wrapped in the 60s. Pretty cool.
Also had 35 dime savers from a bank in Toledo, OH full of Mercs and roosies. I’m going to look at every single merc dime for him 😂
What else am I gonna do? The roads are covered in ice… ugh.

Ahh ... what a good friend!!

Actually, looks kinda fun if you're stuck indoors.

Relaxing.
Some of the roosies are nice unc with pretty colors. Every coin has a straight line of toning across the middle from the album

I like those very cool. Nowadays they can care less if a kid want to save his cash money now they want to give him a ATM card.
Hoard the keys.
When I was born in 1954, one of the popular gifts in our family was a dime saver full of mercs. I removed them from the folders and put them in plastic tubes somewhere around 1963. Still have the dimes but the folders are long gone.
And yes, I did cherrypick the mercs. Nothing of note and all were well circulated.

My digital cameo album 1950-64 Cameos - take a look!
I would love a chance to look through a pile of mercs! They don't hurt my eyes like dark old wheaties. 👍
Looks like fun - nothing like the half toned dimes (and quarters) from them 1st Federal S & L folders. Unfortunately, when I was a kid, my Mom made me deposit all of mine into a savings account.
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
Imagine that. A time when banks wanted people to save! Not take out a loan.
Over the top cool!

Cameonut. I was issued a couple years before you in 52. Did your elementary school have “bankbooks “ , provided by the local bank. Every week or was it monthly, anyway we’d collect empty pop bottles and redeem them. Really wasn’t a fan of giving up my hard earned money but 3 rd grade peer pressure could be crushing 😉

That's quite a hoard of 'dime-savers'. The most I've ever seen in one place.
These days, there are no dime-savers, you don't even see savings banks like we used to. Kids don't need to save money, mom and dad will buy them a car as soon as they're old enough to drive. Just like every couple I know with teen age children.
When I was a kid, my friends and I all had at least 2 jobs. Just so we could afford to run the car we worked so hard for......
Don't get me started on the walk to school......
Here’s an example 😉

What a Great way to spend a snowy day! Beats shoveling or snow blowing! Gotta love the toning.
School was uphill both ways and in the snow,,,,,
In the snow, I think I'd rather walk uphill. When you slip and fall you don't go as far.
Now that is a great activity for a cold, snowy winter day.... Hope you find a treasure in there... watch for the 42/1 ... Cheers, RickO
It is interesting to note how the vintage coin holder toned the Mercury Dimes.
