Sparky64's 2022 Winter FUN report

Fortunate to have cheap direct flights from a small airport in upstate NY to Orlando/Sanford.
Unfortunately our flight was delayed 3 hours. It was a late flight anyway.
Bottom line is we didn't get to our hotel until 4:00am Friday morning.
Friday morning I dropped off a few coins for messydesk to photograph and chatted a bit.
He's one of the good guys, I like him.
Easily sold a few unwanted Morgans to a dealer.
The place seemed to be really buzzing.
I don't recall so many dealers actively looking for coins to buy even very late into the show.
I was not having a very productive coin hunt so I looked at Mr. Blay's Lincoln set and Hansen's seated quarter set.
I also sat in on Bill Jones's talk on Lincoln and am so glad I did. It was fantastic.
I re-learned that if you see something you want you better get it. A couple times I would see some thing, take a walk, come back and it's gone.
Saturday was a better day coin wise for me.
I was pessimistic going in but I was wrong.
First stop was to revisit Gerry Fortin's table to look at a coin I'd seen the day before.
I was happy to see it still there among his amazing selections.
One of my goals has always been to acquire a nice AU CBH with some color.
This was a big purchase for me but I decided to pull the trigger.
As busy as they were, Mr. Fortin sat with me and gave me the most amazing personal coaching, opinions and stories about his own collection. He actually told me he was "proud of me" for buying this coin.
Something I'll never forget.
This is the CBH.
Edit: AU 53+
I also wanted to make a decent addition to my silver Washington Quarter set but was really struggling to find something. I was looking for a '36 or '37 proof.
My friend texted me and said he found a '37 proof PCGS MS66 hidden in a dealers tray so I went over to see.
It really was hidden in a tightly spaced horizontal tray rack. The dealer was mostly into jewelry and minerals. It's the only one of these I saw all weekend and the price was more than fair.
All in all it was an awesome trip.
Always nice to leave the snow and ice and escape for a few days.
At the airport now on Sunday. Going from sunny and 80° to single digits tomorrow.
Thanks for reading my report.

That's a beautiful 1826 CBH. Nice job pulling the trigger on that one. You will be glad you did down the road IMHO.

As an ex-New Yorker from the Albany area now retired to South Carolina, I sympathize completely. Glad you had a good time. I was there Thursday thru Saturday and had a ball.

Great report and I love that half.
I also had a great experience with Gerry Fortin on Thursday.
I'm digging that CBH! Thanks for the report.
That Capped Bust Half probably spent many years in a Wayte Raymond album. Very eye-appealing toning.
Serendipitous buy on that pr .25
Both sides were likely pleased.
That's an amazing Capped Bust Half!!

Spectacular 1826 half! Thanks for the great report.
Two great coins and a nice show report, AND you got to see good people, hear a good talk and see the displays!
I know I'm jealous.
FWIW, I saw that CBH on Gerry's site ... nice choice!

Really good show report and very nice acquisitions. I am in the Albany, NY area...and it is COLD!! And a lot of ice. You should have stayed there for a couple more days...
Cheers, RickO
Great write-up, what a fabulous CBH 53, (deserving a + as is, heck yes) I am so loving that piece, you totally rocked however you look at it it, thanks for sharing.
I used to live in Albany and Saratoga Springs, so I sympathize with those that know upstate NY winters first hand. I relocated to Florida earlier this year so it was a dry and uneventful trip over to FUN.
Nothing is as expensive as free money.
Totally understand upstate NY weather.
Drove from CT to SC last week and the temperatures felt the same almost through out the whole way. Glad to have missed both the storms that clobbered VA and MD but was too tired to drive onwards to Orlando for FUN. Maybe next time.

Nice report. Thanks for posting
Thank you so much for your show report. Nice CBH. You're smart buying a solid AU out of the MS 58 - MS 63 no man's land of this series.
If the coin speaks to you, and you know you'll have a difficult time finding another one, yes buy it. Otherwise, one will eventually show up.
