Newp California Commem… And another!

Picked this up in a recent Stacks Bowers auction. Not as much toning/color as I would usually like but this coin is like chrome! Fantastic liquid surfaces not like other coins from the era.

You can guess the grade if you like. It’s in an old fat holder.

In looking for threads this Commem, not many have pics left. Post ‘em if got ‘em.

    All I have is a measly 62. :'(

I'll give it a loving home as I currently have zero in my collection. lol

Thanks for the feedback - and would like to see more of these!

I think my pics exaggerated the tic marks a bit. As you can see it’s graded a 65 - maybe over graded? But I like the look!

Bob13 I like yours a lot. I think the second set of pictures is much more flattering than the first. I've always enjoyed that design. I've had a few of them. Right now I've got a raw 63-ish example in one of the commem spots in my 7070 type set. Yours is nicer than any example I've owned.

Also, the fact that PCGS lists prior auction results is so helpful - this coin last traded publicly in 2007 and 2008 - was able to see other pictures and results. Thanks PCGS!

Here is the one in my type set. It's in an old NGC MS-64 holder.

The field portion of the dies which struck these coins were polished in such way which gives the coin unusually strong luster.

I also won a California commemorative half dollar for an exhibit I did at the 2015 Winter FUN convention.

Thanks all for some great examples. These coins look nicer in hand - will try to see some higher grade examples next show I can make.

OK - what about this one? Just arrived and unlike the opalescent one I own this one has some color!

As an aside - Kudos to Greatcollections @ianrussell - I won this coin on Sunday and it was in my hands by Tuesday!

Also, the fact that PCGS lists prior auction results is so helpful - this coin last traded publicly in 2007 and 2008 - was able to see other pictures and results. Thanks PCGS!

Beautiful commem, maybe a technical 64, but eye appeal of a "67". Nice pick-up
