Anyone watching 1883?
Post something from this year to help us relive the US back then!
Here are my 1883 German-American Bicentennial So-Called Dollars and Half Dollars. German-American Day was celebrated every year from 1883 until WWI at which time, it was stopped and wouldn't be celebrated again until 1983.
Here's my medal showcasing the Brooklyn Bridge which opened in 1883 as "The Eighth Wonder of the World".

Liking it so far!
Some scenes for the series were filmed close by. The producers should have reached out to borrow my 1883 double eagle for a scene with a poker game in a saloon.
I'm a fan.
I think it is being filmed around me. Sam Elliot was in a local restaurant a few weeks back.
Awesome! Are you going to let them use it?

In addition to the general story line, I like the prices mentioned in it. Gives you a feel for how much money was worth back then.

Back then, King David Kalākaua, the last King of Hawaii was ruling. It's amazing that in 1881 he travelled around the world to encourage immigration to Hawaii.

I haven’t seen it yet but want to. Something I used to own.

🎶 shout shout, let it all out 🎶
ok
I'm breaking the rules.
the show will undoubtedly feature these more than coins
1873 Winchester - coins probably won't do as well as barter
Hopefully they show 1883 rifles like this Winchester-Hotchkiss

I have my Dad’s 1873 Winchester and cherish it so very much. It was his favorite.

Okay a little obscure for 1883 but still neat.

It fits the time frame well. William Wirt Winchester died in 1881 and, his widow, Sarah Winchester purchased the property for the house in 1884. Original construction lasted from 1886 to her death in 1922. It's an interesting house to visit and learn about.
I’m watching it 👍

Very nice coins everyone!
Imagine getting a mint state 1883 coin in change like we get 2021 Crossing the Delaware quarters today?
Pretty sure I've got a circulated "Racketeer" nickel...

Now this thread is up my alley, Zoins! I have been working on an 1883 (birth year less 100) proof set for the last few years. I currently have 6 out of the 10 and am trying to stay patient.
There have been a few misses over the last couple of years as well. I was the underbidder on the Simpson 1C PR67RD (realized $15,600) and the Forsythe Shield 5C PR67+CAM (realized $11,550). Still have some regret but not too much because I think I made pretty strong bids. Also now I don't have to get the Forsythe coin reholdered
Then of course there were a few absolute stunners auctioned recently that were unfortunately not in the budget: the Newman/Simpson 25C PR69CAM and TDN's Trade Dollar NGC PF69.

Awesome looking coins for your Birth Year Set! Congrats and stay patient!
It would be great if they did an episode with a Racketeer nickel!
From my raw type set.

This might be a real “racketeer nickel” because it has a nicely reeded edge.
I might also mention my grandmother because she was born in 1883. She was always looking for coins dated 1883. This dime love token was in her collection
I have a couple of 1883 CC Morgans... just too lazy to go downstairs and dig them out..... Revisit the several pictures above (of 1883 CC Morgans)... Mine look very similar... Cheers, RickO
Here is a high end AU example of an 1883-CC double eagle ...
'Racketeer' Love Token:
I plan to watch once Yellowstone Season 4 is over.
I currently do not have an 1883 coin in my PCGS inventory. Here's one I owned in the past:
Well since the rule was broken, here's my Great granddad's WH 45-70 Sporting Model 1879, technically produced in 1881. This is the closest I have to 1883.
It’s been a good show so far. Doesn’t hurt that I watch Yellowstone either.
