Looks like a misplaced date. In the denticles but under the first part of the date under the 18 looks like it to me but will need a closer look. This pic is of a MS coin with it under the 83 in the denticles.
I've been watching a few episodes to recap as I watch 1923 now. Anyone watching 1923, or 1883, now? Also, finally finished the last few chapters of Killing Crazy Horse with the finales for Crazy Horse, Sitting Bull and Geronimo. It's interesting that the book doesn't really cover the ending years of General Crook, Lieutenant Gatewood or others on the military side.
Just ran across this military tournament medal. Useful to think about all the encampments that were happening at the time.
There are a few here already but I have a “renegade” nickel that was gold plated to look like a 5 dollar gold piece - because in 1883 they didn’t have “five cents” written on the coin (but added it later) - 1880’s version of counterfeiting money…
I loved the show - huge fan!! Binged watched all 10 episodes
1883 17th Annual Encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic in Denver, Colorado Medal. Bronzed Copper. MS-67 BN (NGC)
I love the mountain and mining scene on these.
These are most often seen in white metal with a hanger, which is how they were intended to be worn. I've run across 3 unholed white metal specimens so far and just 2 bronze specimens.

What does having a date in the denticles mean? I’m not sure I'm seeing it.

Very nice Albany piece! I don't often see that one @Pioneer1!
I guess I shouldn't as it's unique in the NGC Census! Congrats!
Here's a nice Morgan I just ran across.
It's a bit unusual to see this kind of color with banding.

Thanks for posting it!
Splendid!

....and not really all that expensive. Lots of these were saved.
This looks like your TrueView @BryceM! Very nice die cracks!
Here's another Liberty Seated Dime for the thread. Just ran across it and loved the look.
When comparing the Liberty Seated design to the other coin designs in this thread, it's amazing that this design was almost 50 years old back in 1883.

The grade falls way, way short of the eye appeal:

Great coins everyone! Love the cents, nickels, halves and dollars, both trade and seated!
Also love the Hapaha @DrDarryl! It's another great example of the TrueView in slab. Did you order the TrueView yourself?
