I like Ike? Post an Ike
![moursund](https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads/userpics/CQVPRO57CAZT/nFH82XKSDUMFC.jpg)
I usually refer to them as Yikes or Icks. But I decided to buy the best looking (inexpensive) Ike I could find. Now I kind of like it! 🤗
Is one Ike pretty much like another? Post your favorite Ike!

Ike’s are awesome but I collect only silver coins so that means I only have Ike’s from 1971 to 1976 because 77 and 78 never made in silver. There are two types of silver Ike’s - blue Ike’s and brown Ike’s. The blue are uncirculated business strike finish and the brown Ike’s are proofs. The blue cost 3 dollars and the brown 10 (which was a LOT back then for this coin - would be like paying 250 for silver ASE from the mint today). It didn’t take long to realize that the blue Ike’s were not handled individually like the brown Ike’s - And therefor have bag marks and so a high grade blue Ike is WAY more rare than a proof... so my collection consist of blue Ike’s that are MS67 or 68...

Again - the proofs are nice but not as rare as high grade S mint silver Ike’s (non proof - aka blue Ike’s)
The reason they called blue or Brown is because the silver proofs came in a brown box and the silver uncirculated ikes came in a blue box...
My 71 is not graded but I will get to it someday.
I hope you learned something - and by the way I missed one:
The reverse to the above Ike commemorative
I guess you could say I like Ike - he was a mans man for sure! Great thread...!! Thanks so much for this!

Here’s one:
For some reason I ended up with a ton of these. It's pretty fun to leave them as part of a tip. Here's another one I kinda like:
I have well over 200 of these accumulated over the decades. I have all the brown and blue Ikes too.
I remember how excited I was when the Ike was first released. I just had to have one!
Even when this dollar was in circulation, I don't think I ever got one in change. I got mine by looking in cash registers when they were opened, and asking, "can I buy those?" The cashier was always happy to exchange them for paper dollars. Nobody wanted these coins, except us collectors.
And just think, it is the last circulating large size dollar coin. I like Ike!
I have several I picked up over the years when I lived out west.....Have not looked at them in years. I think several are raw.. a couple in boxes - do not remember if blue or brown... Probably blue though. I like them because they are the last 'big' U.S. dollar coin....Cheers, RickO
I’m about 70 and my pop had a grocery store in the late 50’s and up till mid 60’, think lots of silver coins coming through the till. I remember the peace dollar being the unloved ugly duckling. My pop, who liked them, had several complete Whitman’s full, every hole, of peace dollars. Morgan’s we’re the big deal. Reminds me of Ike’s. I suppose if everything cycles, perhaps I should be putting up some nice examples while their cheap. 😉
( oh wait, I am 🙀)

Something different. Here is Eisenhower's 1953 inaugural medal in bronze.
And here is the same medal in silver. The mintage for this piece was 872 pieces, which might sound low. In fact it was incredibly high at the time. Previously silver metals were not made or were issued in very limited quantities, like less than 5. The Republicans had not held the White House since 1933, and many of them were ready to celebrate with special medal.
Here is the 1957 medal. This medal was not well done because the artist who designed it was overwhelmed with work and could not put the time into it. The artist had moved to Italy and forced to design the portraits from photographs.
Those are very cool @BillJones thanks or posting them!

I'm not sure if you know it, but the C&C silver that you have/show is a trail die.

@SPalladino thank you very much for pointing it out to me. I really love this medal as it has such a beautiful reverse and complimentary version of Ike. I don’t think it adds a huge value to but non the less very cool.!

Steve. I’m so bad at this. Please tell me what I’m looking at. Is there a problem with the lettering I’m not seeing. Old eyes suck. Thanks JZ

@Jzyskowski1 its a doubled die rev. Look closely at the serifs on the lettering.

Oh. I think I’m seeing a difference. Machine doubling puts lettering on little pedestals. Step like. Here it not as regular? The doubling effect is more subtle? Thanks. This is very difficult. 🤨 This?

I have this one.

Yes, "I like Ike" really was a campaign slogan in 1952 and '56.
Believe it or not, there was some concern that Eisenhower would not run in 1956. He had had a major heart attack, and then he had an attack of illitus. Therefore the theme of this button was not too far fetched in 1956.
Here is an convention ribbon from the 1956 Republican National Convention.
The detail with the Ike and Lincoln portraits.
My in-laws received this medal when they went to a Republican fundraiser in 1960.
Most people today don't know how popular Eisenhower was. My mother in-law greatly admired him.
This is great the way Ike's head is bulging out of the medal.![ ](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/grin.png)
