When was your first PCGS submission

jessewvujessewvu Posts: 5,065 ✭✭✭✭✭

Mine was 7/21/2006. I used a coupon to get 4 Lewis and Clark $1 silver coins graded. Boy, was I silly back then.

Change the date on your PCGS account, you can go back a looooong way.

I was busy cracking other holders to get them into PCGS plastic so I could start a registery set.

May 1996. Five coins for crossover. All crossed.
Return insured shipping cost was $11.30 (those were the days!)

    When in doubt, don't.

First submission to PCI in 1996, I was 13 years old and wanted my 1996 W dimes slabbed. Only collected raw coins in albums until recently, first PCGS submission was in 2020

I believe it was early to mid 2002.... Not sure I can even find a record now... Was in WA state at the time. Cheers, RickO

For a balanced approach. I have never submitted a coin, yet! I have many that are slabbed, though 😉

1995 for me. I submitted a 1995 DDO Lincoln that I found at Burger King on my way home from school at the time. I was thrilled to death. I realize it is not worth much, but it was just so cool finding one in change after all the hype on the news at the time.

My story is about the same. I submitted a 1916 Mercury Dime I bought from Littleton Coin Company and an 1854 Quarter I purchased from my LCS to PCI in 1996 when I was 12 years old. They graded MS63 FB and VF30 respectively. I was already actively selling coins on classifieds2000.com prior to joining eBay so they didn't last in my collection very long. Looking back those are two coins I wish I had held onto! I joined PCGS in 2001 and received a voucher for five coins to submit, but never got around to sending anything in. I made my first submission to NGC in 2007 and made a dozen or so more between then and 2020. My first PCGS submission was only this year and I haven't looked back having submitted 11 orders so far to date.

My first submission to PCGS was in 1990. I had an eight piece gold type set in a Capital Plastics holder. I selected with the aid JJ Teaparty, when it was in Boston, four coins from that set, the $5 Liberty and Indian and the $10 Liberty and Indian. Teaparty submitted the coins. The results were:

    $5 Liberty, MS-64
    $5 Indian AU-58
    $10 Liberty MS-64
    $10 Indian MS-63

I traded away one of the coins. I cracked out the other three eventually. They all got upgrades to MS-63 or better. That's right, the $5 Indian went from AU-58 to MS-63 in a PCGS holder.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

on 2/17/1994, I submitted this coin. I bought it raw at my LCS for $500.00 on 6/1/1992. I always wanted one of these, so I have no intention of ever selling it. :)

Sometime back in the Spring of 1986.
I submitted through Bill Spears of Bremerton, WA (before becoming a PCGS dealer myself back in February 1990).
Turnaround time back in '86 was four months!

    Wow, it does not seem that I have had 36 submissions. My first was received by PCGS on 12/12/12 via CC Voucher;

I still have a couple of those in my collection, the two TrueViews that are shown above.

I sent one coin through a dealer back in the late 1990s, a 1922-D Lincoln that came back 65RD. Then I submitted the best coins from my raw FS Jefferson nickel collection through another poster here in early 2002 nd also did really well. The first submission I made myself was in June 2003, I got cocky and used my four vouchers for mediocre modern proof coins and got my rear end handed to me.

I cant remember exactly but I think it was 2009. I logged into PCGC and though I have lots of Registry Sets and Coins there, the submission records are not online. I guess they dont do that on the website. That would be interesting.

Not me. It's lost in the mists of antiquity but I'd guess sometime around 1999. I started out with ANACS around 1990 then went to SEGS. I have since reslabbed nearly all the SEGS slabs with PCGS.

This one Oct 2004 , but I beleive this is when I became a PCGS authorized dealer, as I had a different account number prior, but dont remember what it was. I was submitting coins way before then as a regular member

  • Today. Three $10 gold Eagles, a $3 gold Indian Princess, and a 1917 Type I Standing Liberty quarter.

I started collecting again recently after going inactive in the late 1980s when I went off to college. Back then I did have some nice coins, but didn't want to spend the money to have them graded.

Submitted 8 gold and platinum eagles using a free member voucher on 3/2/2006 and they shipped 3/27/2006 within the same month, which is really good turnaround.

Right now I have 2 submissions that they received on July 20 and August 18th sitting for 2-3 months in grading status.

Sometime in the late 1990s. Bought a very nice common date Braided Hair Large Cent in NGC MS 64 BN.
I bought the PCGS grading book and it came with a coupon for a free submission. Went to a Long Beach Show. Looked at my coin, and a number of others in that grade in PC plastic. Submitted it for a same grade crossover at the show, and got it. The first and only NGC to PCGS cross at same grade I've ever received.

My first submission was the first ASE Reverse Proof that came out. Came back an MS-70. I promptly sold it on the Bay, and used the money for an MS-69 version, a 1987 $5 PF69-UC U.S. Constitution coin and a 183X XF-45 Bust Halve. Still happy with those transactions.

Coming up on 20 years here on the forum, I may be the only person who has never submitted a coin myself for grading to PCGS or any other TPG. Thinking about doing it any month now, but I have been saying that for five years. Had a dealer submit 8 in 2005, if that counts. If PCGS creates the Registry sets I have requested, I will have about 70 coins 1794-1807 to submit - raw, crossovers, and PCGS reholder for attribution.

    Raw coin are still fun.
