Is your "Best" coin ( your favorite coin) your most expensive coin?

For me, yes. My 1795 FH dollar is my favorite and 'best' coin. It just happens to be my most expensive coin. I ask this question because honestly, my second favorite- or first fav if it wasn't for the 1795- rates low on a value/price scale yet I wouldn't trade it for anything.

This is my favorite coin, it is also my most expensive.
Nope!
My most expensive coin is currently my #3 or #4 favorite coin in my set, I can't make up my mind.
I think I'm just about done with my set, just need a few upgrades and than I can move on to another less demanding venture,
I have several "favorite" pieces. Truly, I can't tell which is the favorite at any one moment. Of them, one might be the most expensive, but the others certainly are no where near it in terms of dollar value.
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
OK, my most expensive coin is #3....no wait it's #4!
My favorite coin is #1.
My favorite coin is one of my least expensive. I have shown it here many times, but will again.

No.
I have a few trade dollars that were a tad bit expensive but by far my fave is a 1916 SLQ in the most pathetic run down and worn out condition.

Not most expensive but one of the coolest.
I don’t think I have a favorite one or even a favorite few. That’s probably a good thing for me because if I did I would probably just own those and none others.
My fav is either my avatar coin (‘50 Franklin Proof 65) or my newest MS65DMPL Morgan. My most valuable/expensive should be my ‘14D Lincoln that’s XF/AU. I love it, but it’s not currently at the top.
This only set me back a little over $100 but it’s still my favorite.. an 1882 dime from a family bracket
But it's a Buffalo nickel.
(ducks)
Just kidding. It's a beautiful coin! They're the epitome of the engraving art, or so I'm told here.
No, they are all my favorites.
Each one has something special about it. Received from my Opa and Oma, a coin from my Mom and Dad, or maybe a coin with pop 2 but not respected (Liberty $10's) or one that spent 150+ years at the bottom of the Ocean. I like them all. Really hard not to like Gold coinage of the US.

No. I really like my most expensive coin, but it wouldn't be the last one I'd sell. I can't say I have a single favorite coin, but there are several I can't imagine ever parting with.
WOW!! That is one gorgeous coin. I can see why it's your favorite.
I have four which are all of my favorites and about the same value:

Not my most expensive, but my favorite.... Cheers, RickO

Nope.
Definitely not, but it’s so hard to choose as I have so many favorites.
Some are by no means expensive, but to me they are priceless!

Nope, not by a long shot.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
No. My favorite is a 1795 Small Eagle $5 gold piece. The gold small eagle reverse was the last type design that I needed to have an example of every design that appeared on an old U.S. coin. Of course, today the mint is churning out so much "stuff," it's impossible to keep up with it.
My most valuable coin, by far, is this one.
Love this one. I imagine someone wearing that proudly while remembering their best friend. Isn't it great when coins connect others to memories? Even ones we never personally experienced?

My favorite isn't even really a coin. Its a Dan Carr MS 70 Peace dollar.

If that is the toned Peace dollar you've shown, I agree. That would be a favorite of mine too.

@braddick no its not toned. You are thinking of somebody else. I think its @SummerDays3104

I'd ay its close between the top 2, though the price difference between the two is a lot.

Yes, although it's only coincidence that it's my most expensive. My #2 barely makes my top 20 in cost.
I have several favorites, and none of them are even close to being the most expensive. The thing that makes them my favorites has more to do with the "thrill of the hunt", of finding a coin that seems special, even though it may be a common date. Before 1986, a collector would have to rely on his own knowledge and instincts. Most of my coins were purchased from local dealers, or at 2 or 3 shows that I would attend each year. My favorite coins would include a 1925 Buffalo nickel with satiny luster (a PCGS OGH MS64), rather than the somewhat granular surfaces typically found. My avatar, an 1879 quarter, purchased in 1971 for $95 (a major purchase at the time for a kid working his way through college, and my most expensive coin at the time) was slabbed in a first-generation holder in 1988 as MS65. As a teenager in 1969, I was looking for a 1940 half dollar. My local dealer had rolls of most coins after 1934. He had just sold the last coins out of a roll of 1940 halves, and went to his back room, returning with an unopened original roll. He spread them out on a velvet mat, and let me take my pick. The eye appeal was unbeatable, and I bought 2 coins at $6.50 each (still raw). Another was an 1898-O Morgan that I saw at a small local show in 1978. I was immediately drawn to it because of its nearly mark-free surfaces, and bought it for $12. Before I left that show, I had 2 dealers ask me if I would sell the coin to them, one offering $20. I thanked them and declined, and finally had it slabbed in 2015, as an MS66+.
Now that so many coins have been graded by third parties, some of the excitement is gone. Thanks to the internet and improvements in digital photography, which can still be misleading, nearly all slabbed coins are now easily available via the internet to anyone with the $$$ to buy them. A fussy collector with a good eye can still be challenged finding the "right" coin in a coin shop or the larger shows.

Wow, just decided I don't have a single favorite!

The most expensive is the Seated Dollar in my Type Set... my "best" is this Capped Bust half... at least IMHO...

edited to add... or maybe this one...

Far from most expensive but the one I find most pleasing to have in hand.

My icon image is a 1734 Crown... it is graded as a 58 by our host. I do not have an image of the other I have which was graded a 62 by NGC. I mention this because my favorite coin would likely be a George II Crown... just not sure if it would be a young or old head. I don't have an image of the 1751... but that might be the best... especially if it was re-submitted. It likely is among the finest known... not that it matters.

The most that I ever spent on a coin, was $1,774. for an 1874-S $20. DE.
Although I cannot make up my mind if the DE is my favorite coin.
My 1798 Draped Bust Dollar and my 1909 S VDB, although not my most expensive, are right up there among my top favorites.
If I ever had to sell two of the three, I don't know how I could choose.
They would probably be among the last few coins that I would ever sell. Along with my 1916 D Merc, 1942/1 Merc, etc.

I’m not sure if I have a favorite. I like some of my toned Franklin’s as much as I like some of the more expensive gold.
This is my most expensive-

But this 1916 matte proof is probably my favorite-

Yep.
