I put together a set of commemoratives from each state I lived in (nine)... Not all had one (Florida), so I added a state token for FL. I really don't understand why commemoratives are not more popular. Most have interesting designs and are (for the most part) available at reasonable prices. Cheers, RickO
We will start with the Vermont commemorative half dollar.
The reverse that was proposed to be used on this coin appeared only on the Bennington Battle Medal. It shows Fay's Tavern, which was also known as the Catamount Inn. It was the meeting place for Ethan Allan and the Green Mountain Boys. Instead of showing the building, the Fine Arts Commission pushed to have a catamount placed on the reverse instead. The imagery flew over the heads of just about everyone.
Here is a picture of the tavern which burned down in the 19th century.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
I love those Proof-Likes. I gotta get me one some day.
I looked for several years and finally found this one. You’ll find a nice one with a bit of searching.
I see one every now and then but just not the right one for me. There was one I hesitated on a couple of years ago that sold to someone else and I have regretted ever since.

Yep; not all are equally nice. I've been there when I hesitated and regretted it. The next time you see a good one, jump on it.

While @ricko and others like me in the somewhat large but silent group that prefers highly lustrous coins without color may like these, I understand many of you will quickly move on to the next reply.

A day without fine wine and working on your coin collection is like a day without sunshine!!!

Nothing is as expensive as free money.
By design I suppose.

Sorry for the glare. Too lazy to take them out of the protective baggies today.
