Shout out to Leaf for making reasonably priced quality products. Instead of one box 2021 Donruss at $500, I bought 4 2021 Leaf Metal FB Boxes at $120 each.
I ripped 3 and still have one left, but I wanted to post the big hit. so far. I also pulled a Kyle Pitts.
great hit. the no logos work well w alabama unis too! 😉
I have gotten a few cards in but have lately been buying stuff to keep unopened. Up until recently I opened everything to see if I could find a treasure to grade. Not anymore. Cant grade at a reasonable price and I am not just thrilled with lead time and results so my collecting will be a lot more of this
I've been looking for a nice hardcover copy of this book for a while. It's a bit expensive even unsigned, so I thought I'd just go the extra mile and get this one.
Another Batting Title (back to back) coming for the maestro? HE is 22 and has about 500 hits..... he could have 3000 hits by 34-35 with another several years left in the tank. Crazy OBP.... ~.470 plus

dont forget already on the brink of 100 homeruns already w/ covid seasons.
131 walks vs only 84 strikeouts. absurd.
2 dingers while going 3-3 w/ a bb last night too. mvp prolly outta reach but just getting into the convo after his dismal first half is pretty respectable.
Nice Soto Refractor @blurryface Out of all the rookies from 2017-2021 I like him and Vlad Jr the best due to their ability to hit for average and power
It's been over 6 months for me to be able to purchase a card, any card, for one of my registry sets and stay within my budget. But I finally added one from recent Probstein auction:

Wow - that’s some card! Great centering, vivid color and great registration. Worth a review, maybe? Sure looks to like it has NM qualities.
Thanks. I think it’s a very nice card. Perhaps the next owner will think that a review is a worthwhile expenditure of funds, but I’ll be happy with how it is.
Still don't have my scanner unpacked yet but thought I'd share this one.
I also wanted to share a sweet Maravich piece I won at the last SCP auction. The photograph is a magazine page from the December 11th, 1972 issue of Sports Illustrated by John Zimmerman (one of the real pioneers of modern sports photography). Its worth a look as these images were made using a dark room technique he came up with.
This is my first purchase in a while. I bought it last month but just got it scanned. With the addition of this card, I now need 3 cards to complete the Nu-Card Scoops set in PSA 9 or higher. The last three will be tough to find.

1962 Topps #200 Mickey Mantle
Curious about the rare, mysterious and beautiful 1951 Wheaties Premium Photos?
This little treat arrived today; I have these forums and a particular poster to thank for forcing my hand a little. Most know by now, I really like Mickey Mantle - through and through, in all shapes and sizes from 1951-1969 - and also I have a prediliction towards rare cards. So when a recent thread popped up here about those Canuck Topps dopplegangers known as O Pee Chee, I took heed when poster @olb31 discussed that one of the rarer cards of my favorite player (slabbed anyway) was the 1967 Canadian card numbered 150 with a total PSA graded population lower that that number, residing at just 143. Yes, I know that OPC has long been a red headed step child in collecting, that there's a border to cross for grading and the entire sets' population is low so maybe there is just a sea of raw cards out there waiting to be found in the great white north. Or, maybe, there just arent many floating around anymore of a pretty unpopular set. I couldn't rightly tell you but I would be curious to know, like always. I love to learn, which is how we got here in the first place. Now, I'm also a mid grade man so I don't have a ten for you. But aside from one badly dinged corner and being off center on front, this card that arrived today fits my collection to a 'T' and I am glad I splurged a little on this (for my birthday present to me) because these days you really never know when the next card will leave the barn, never to return. Plus, being a lower population Mickey makes it almost like a cigar smoker at a gas station with leaky pumps these days...
I picked up this rookie year Andy Pettitte autographed original photo at the Philly show. I love seeing Donnie Baseball behind him even if the stadium appears to have been empty that night.
And then there is one of the more oddball items I've added to my Gary Carter collection in awhile, the Carter family 1981 Christmas card. I got this in a trade with another Carter collector. I love stuff like this!

This is a different Reynolds rookie card that just came in (I have 3 or 4). Looks amazing, but too afraid to send in 😂
Also seems to have the same type of fisheye on the card as the other 🤔. The one corner has a spec of dust on it, NOT a corner ding
And of course my PSA 9 topps giant Hanmerin’ Hank!! 40$ raw pick up from a greg Morris auction a couple years back. Thinking I might send this in for review at some point, but regardless, absolute stunner!

I saw that set on the registry about a week ago for the first time. Somehow, in the literally dozens of times I've watched that movie, I've never noticed that detail. Seems like Goudey or maybe Playball would've been more appropriate than T-206. Maybe they were passed down from The Old Man.

i was shocked to see it finally pop up. i had tried to request it a long time ago but was told it was too small. couldnt even sneak it by via online bc you needed 5 certs to put in the request. not sure what transpired to get them to finally add it, but glad they did.
perfect timing btw. actually got the playball in today…
with how short the movie is, i do wish they woulda had a lil more backdrop as to why these players and or how they were acquired.
Okay, so there is a Playball. I was thinking more of the colorful '41 set. I forgot the '40 was b&w.
There's no apparent rhyme or reason for the player selection. Rucker was a Giant. Reulbach was a Cub. The film's setting is the upper midwest, somewhere within driving distance of Chicago (one of his dad's co-workers has tickets to an upcoming Bears game at one point) in the early '40's. I still think it's possible that the t-206's were his father's.

The setting for A Christmas Story is Cleveland, Ohio and Ralphie’s family is in a suburb just outside of there. Higbee’s was a real department store in Cleveland until the 1990’s and both house and Higbee’s building are real and not just movie set creations.
The film is based on the life and stories, relayed to the American people via his radio show, of the film’s narrator Jean Shepherd. Jean, for all intents and purposes, is Ralphie. Mr. Shepherd was known mostly for comedy and wit and made several career stops in the various cities mentioned on the baseball cards during his radio career. Perhaps they’re more an homage to him and his favorite players and cities?
In 1940, Rucker was billed as ‘the new Ty Cobb’ by the NY Giants. Ed Reulbach’s WS one hitter and two shutouts in one day would be amazing trivia and memorable to a kid and Jimmy Hart played half a season before being suspended for punching an umpire. Each player is seemingly united by comedy - some kind of bizarre and uniquely funny anecdote - so maybe these were Jean Shepherd’s selections?
One of my favorite movies ever.

I'm glad to have picked this one up as I gave up my old copy in a trade a few months back. It's a controversial card that may date later; some people believe it's a '49 issue or even later. I don't know about all that with any certainty, I just know I like the card. Anyone with concrete information is welcome to impart their wisdom on this one; I love to learn.
