It took me a long time to chase down this one. I have a number photos of "near and far" misses when I was on the hunt for it, an 1838-C $5 gold.
This coin is much harder to find with decent eye appeal than the 1838-D half eagle.
This 1838-C quarter eagle was second Charlotte gold coin I have owned. The first one was a really worn $5 gold piece. The Charlotte mint did a better job at striking these coins although a lot of them have a struck-though on the obverse that limits their eye appeal.
Here is an example with the struck through spot on the cheek of Ms. Liberty.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
Once I picked this up, started looking for the rest of the set... Found interest to be pretty significant in this short Classic Head series but definitely doable.
Thank you sir. All of the coins shown here are lovely. I especially like seeing the various Classic "C" examples - good to see it's such a popular coin, given its scarcity.
I'll post one a day until I exhaust the date-run, to keep the thread going in hopes of encouraging any others out there who have examples to share them. In the meantime, here's another.
I used to have all of the QEs, but sold many of them for a new home purchase, plus I decided the QEs (and definitely the $1's) were just too small to keep. This only QE I have remaining is the last... '60-C.

The longer I live the more convincing proofs I see of this truth, that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice is it possible for an empire to rise without His aid? Benjamin Franklin

The weak C but am looking for a strong C.
P45/CAC
P45 - First Charlotte coin purchased in a CA antique store back in 1991 as a "VF Half Eagle"... and the one that started it all.
Do you have the 1858 2.50 from Charlotte?
