Appears to be a very nice Merc.... the darkness around the central devices make me think there was an old cleaning...so I do not know what may be lurking under the tarnish. Looks definitely FB.... Cheers, RickO
The 16 has not been cleaned at all. Another date that I am a pushover for.

Bought this one just because. Nothing else to do except scour Ebay after total hip surgery.

Ken, nice strike on the 16, and appears mark free. I bet the color is better in hand. (I like the 1923 date because of the different style 3 than any other 3 in the series.)

I like the date also always looking for them graded in old Anacs soap bars.
The op 's coin another 125 year old example of a great design in American coinage history.
I too am enamored with the 1916 Merc. along with the 1909-VDB 1c, 1913 Var 1 Buff, the 1917 Var 1 25c, 1916 50c, and the 1921 Peace dollar. The first year issues of the "classic" designs seem to be more attractive overall than are the later issues. Most have nice satiny surfaces and sharp strikes.

Nice first year dime!
What's not to like? Nice coin!
The only problem in my opinion.......it's missing a D!

A nice coin.
I too feel that at one point it was cleaned.
I would give it the FB attribute.

Kennedys are my quest...
It’s darker than I like but certainly nice and FB.

I really like that 1916 Ken ... that is a gorgeous coin!
“We are only their care-takers,” he posed, “if we take good care of them, then centuries from now they may still be here … ”

i like the toning on that one
NIce looking coins! Hope you have a speedy recovery.
@Fairlaneman
How much rotation on the 1916 reverse die is that? Enough to add a small premium or not so much?
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
Die rotation on Mercury Dimes is very common. No extra value in my opinion.
