    Wow, great piece from an interesting year. According to Bass-Dannreuther, 4 varieties were struck dated 1797, all with a different reverse. Yours is BD-4; 90-110 known, R-4+. Dannreuther further points out that BD-3 and BD-4 were struck after both 1798/7 varieties, "thus, we have two 1797 varieties seemingly included with the reported coins struck and delivered in 1798." It is difficult to determine the number actually struck, but JD settles on 3,500 - 5,000. Congrats on obtaining this piece.
