T.V. Coin Show Question

Mike Mezack is always comparing his prices to a "nationally advertise catalog". What or who is this catalog or is it something he's making up ?

im not sure but do see some off of ebay. it could be off same expensive place as well, fwiw
Anything on the web can be termed "nationally advertised".
If it's so universally accepted than one referring to it would specify.
Obtuse reference like that is a deflection from the truth. IMO. Peace Roy

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen Mezek holding the Littleton catalog on air. I think the only reason Littleton exists is to make the TV prices sound reasonable by comparison.

This guy? Doesn't it look like Mezack?
It's all crooked to me but I guess he needs a job to. Just saying
I can't choose "Agree" and "LOL" at the same time, but I do!~~
I've seen him use asking prices on eBay. He is not technically lying.
These TV shows are bad for the hobby.
Good from the aspect of generating interest in collecting; bad when people find out they have overpaid or bought junk like gold or platinum plated State Quarters. As you can see, I have not viewed one of these programs in a while.
Garbage shows.... More verbal crapola than used car sales persons. Cannot watch them, would shoot the TV.

One time I watched Pat Boone (yes, that Pat Boone of "Love Letters in the Sand") selling coins on television.

Coins on Television
I don't get why people still watch tv coin shows. In 2021 the internet is a lot more popular than ever before and it doesn't take much to see that the prices for coins on these tv programs are a colossal rip off.
I have never purchased a coin from a television show.
They really jack up the prices.
IMO, your money is better spent at a show or on a reputable auction site.

Kennedys are my quest...
If there is nothing on the boob tube, I'll watch one of the shows. Sometimes I'll see them trying to sell something I want, then I'll search ebay or I'll call my local Coin Dealer to see if he has one for a better deal. But I really laugh my butt off watching Chopper trying to sell coins. He oversells everything, I wonder if he was a car salesman in a past life.
