The decade of the 1890's really saw the US Mint produce some phenomenal proofs in gold and silver. Post up your favorite toned, cameo, black and white.....whatever you like. Big Bonus points for somebody with some proof gold! Let's see a few great proofs from the heyday!

Sorry the photos aren't great... they're 13-15 years old
Great decade for proof coinage!

All I got is this one nickel

Ba Boom! @Floridafacelifter 1895 black and white Monster! Damn beautiful!
@airplanenut I'd love to be let loose with some microfiber and Plastx on those holders!
Nice V Nickel @Mr_Spud !
I just checked my inventory, and I don’t own even a single Proof coin from the 1890’s. As a Type Set collector, my strategy for coin series/designs that straddle the turn of the century (Liberty nickels, Indian Head cents, and the three Barber series) was to always buy coins dated 1900 or later so that having just one coin of that Type can then fill a slot in two sets - my “regular” Type Set, and my 20th Century Type Set!

My collecting “Pride & Joy” is my PCGS Registry Dansco 7070 Set:

@winesteven Makes perfect sense. I'm way less methodic. Actually, I could see specializing just in that decade, and putting together all the proof's.....That would make a hell of a collection.....maybe without the gold...cause that requires like, ummmmm, lots of money.
Very nice coins here. I have no proof coins from that period.... but now I want some.
Cheers, RickO
JA liked it.
Some beautiful coins here- I’ll add three more of my faves!

Speechless!

These PF 69's are much better than the modern PF69's out there. Too bad most laypersons will have to settle for a 2022 PF69 UC Morgan.
I agree with you, but I must admit I’m also excited about picking up the 2021 Morgan and Peace $ and adding them to my collection.
@Floridafacelifter Boy those Morgans are really spectacular. Thanks for rolling them out....and post more!
Thank you- will do! I’ve had the #1 NGC Registry set for about ten years- the set includes 31 coins and I think 23 are top pop coins. Here’s a different coin but without the characteristically beautiful toning of your Barbers.

@Floridafacelifter Wow! I've never seen such beautiful 19th century coins before. They defiantly beat the modern proofs that are coming out right now.

There are some truly unbelievable coins in this thread!
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
Got lucky and bought this as a business strike and had NGC conserve it.

My 1896 in PF-67 CAC.....This coin just has a great "old time gem" look to me. PS @Floridafacelifter Keep those black and white ultra Cams coming....I think you are starting to convert me! Love the two Barbers! Those are very special.

A crack out upgrade , or newly found ?
Wow!
