GOLD $1,831.65 (+16.13)
Feel free to post a coin from the 1830s and now add to that the 1840s.
Just think a few weeks ago some were expecting to see gold dip to the 1600s by now.

Thanks all for the postings.
Looks like we made it through the weekend with the 1830 + holding:

Beautiful pictures. Beautiful coins.
I do not have a gold coin from the 1830's (nice Charlotte gold above), however, I have a lot of gold at $1837.70 (Kitco) right now.... Cheers, RickO
My only one right now.
Kind regards,
George
I've posted this one before, but it fits this thread. Please don't ask for any 1600 gold....

Here are a couple of half eagles which have similar rarities.
The Reduced Diameter, Capped Bust $5 gold is one of the toughest type coins. Most of the mintage was melted because many pieces were exported to Europe where they were destroyed. This 1834 dated piece has had some work done on it, but the devices are very sharp. This is the Plain 4 variety. The estimated surviving population is 30 to 40 pieces.
The Capped Bust design was replaced by the Classic Head Coins in August 1834. Although the Classic Head type is far more common that the Capped Bust type, this 1834 half eagle is almost as rare as the previous coins. This is an example of the 1834 Crosslet 4, $5 gold piece. The estimate is that there are about 125 survivors.
Here is an example of the much more common Plain 4, 1834 Classic Head $5 gold piece. This is the most date in the Classic Head $5 gold set. The estimated number of survivors is 1,750. From personal experience, I think that the number might be a bit higher than that .

Probably should have, but now it is back to the 1830s. Maybe when we get to 1850.
Here is an 1842-C large date half eagle. The purists won't like this one because it's been dipped, but the coppery toning has been growing back over the years. Because of that, the coin has grown on me.
I only have this: (to the best of my memory)

This was my first Dahlonega gold coin. I have read that the Dalonega Mint personnel did not like producing quarter eagles because they had trouble calibrating the coin press. Too often they used too much pressure and broke the dies. There was also the fact that they had to make twice as many coins to process the same amount of gold when they switched from $5 to $2.50 coins.
Only one I have from this decade.
I can’t wait for the $2004-$2008 and beyond! Then I can start to join in.
Oh, except for my $1921 Peace.
I take. it gold has surged back to over $1840 today.
Thanks all for the great additions.
