Bid a 2nd time on an auction coin with only a description, no images and...

I am happy with the results of this one too! It's from the same place (Alaska Rare Coins in Fairbanks) and once again I went by their description, which was spot on. What makes this even better is that the 1845 is not an easy date to find nice in the Seated half series, much less find at all.

Description:

Seated Liberty Half Dollar, 1845, PCGS Ch. XF-45. Medium Gray with underlying luster. Strong detail more indicative of an AU grade. This is a lower mintage no motto Half with only 589,000 struck. Worth a strong bid.

I did get this coin for a very reasonable price, certainly less than if it was offered at GC, Heritage or Stacks. It's a nice upgrade from my VF-30 I already have.

Nice one Erik! Good looking coin, and tough in that grade and look.

Also, I agree ... pretty spot on description from the seller.

Your account brings back memories of the old days of ordering a coin from somewhere, where all we had was the dealers description to go by. I would read, read between the lines, make a call ... and after a while I knew the descriptions I could trust, and whenever I looked for things away from shows and local shops, I could hope to have a pretty good shot to place the right coin in my collection ... all from the pre-internet days.
