I hope life is treating her very good. I miss her. Very few on ebay have the respect that she had.
Do you remember her?

Who is Judith?
Years back, Judith was the coin cop at ebay and was responsible for preventing/removing bad coin listings and was very good at protecting coin buyers. Apparently she unfortunately learned that one of the perils of being good at any job that is in any way related to quality control is that if you are too good at your job you become a roadblock to your employer's short term profit picture. Had ebay realized that in the long run she was good for business their nearsightedness would not have cost them the loss of many potential long time buyers who got burned because there was no more Judith.
The benefits of a successful quality control program do not show up in short term corporate charts. They do however ensure there will be corporate charts in the long term.

@derryb.... Your last sentence so very true. Demonstrated often in business - usually through lack of a quality program. Cheers, RickO

Sounds like she was too competent for eBay.

I dealt with her on numerous occasions in having "German Silver" removed from the bullion category. I'm not sure if ebay retained her in another position. It's been several years since I had any communications with her. Top notch individual.
ebay consciously chose incompetance
@derryb are you speculating here or do you have the real scoop ?
he summed it up well
Judith, the great ebay coin cop is fact.
Like most all posts on this forum everything else is opinion.

Judith Stair. Judith sent out an email in May, 2014, to those of us that were regular members of the Ebay "police", explaining what was going on when her position was terminated. She was moved to another position within the counterfeit control department, but basically defanged. Below is the text of that email:

Hello Regular Reporters,
After 7 years I will no longer be working coin and stamp reports. I want to make you aware of a change that has occurred to the coin reporting process. Your reports are being automatically sent to a different tool to be reviewed and actioned. You will no longer receive responses to your reports and since I will no longer be reviewing them, I doubt that any action will be taken. Only reports sent from the listing page will reach an ebay representative. I fought against these changes but without success.
It has been a great pleasure working with all of you over the years and I sincerely appreciate the time and energy you spent helping the ebay site be a better place to buy and sell coins, currency and stamps. I didn't want you to think I just disappeared. I loved what I did and felt we all were making a difference, no matter how great or small. I will miss working with you.
Again, thank you gentlemen.
Very Best Regards,

Kennedys are my quest...
I worked with Judith and she was great. Her thoughtful and informative message quoted above is something that many in her position wouldn't have bothered to write and send.

Interesting post. I never knew her or of her being very much a newbie to ebay back in 2014. I can relate completely though to her position in the company being a former quality control person myself. It would be quite interesting to hear from her. Maybe she will notice her ears burning a little today as she's mentioned and remembered here.

The big man in the sky got tired of buying counterfeits, I guess.
RIP.

wow
glad this was brought up. our paths must have crossed as i was reporting with you all during that time quite vigorously. even before they blocked the names of buyers/sellers and i relied on that heavily to track down buyers to inform them of their plight.

Wow! That's a shame! I can't recall if I had any interaction with her, but she sounds like top-notch sort of a person.

She did much good in her position.
+1
Interesting.
I got to experience the removal process in the currency category during this period as I reported many fakes. I never knew who or if there was any efforts after my reports. Sometimes items would be removed, sometimes not. However, the problem of fakes still proliferates on Ebay in the currency categories, as much as ever, so whatever efforts have been made are still not working. Indeed, there has been no improvement over the past two decades.
As Ebay does eventually remove some items reported, do they have a person(s) that review our requests for removal, or is it just after so many reports a computer automatically shuts them down? Or, perhaps, something else altogether?
